Anyone have thoughts on the laptop program (they sent details of this year's plan earlier today)?
Obviously there are the IT support benefits (although being in the 1Y program could mean there is only half the chance I'll need to use them), but also the price tag seems a bit steep.
I'm not really familiar with laptops.
I've looked it over and am going to pass. The computer looks good, and the price seems cheap to me (relative to what you get), but my computer is only a year old and is stronger than what they offer (i.e., I'd lose money selling mine and end up with a weaker machine). I think they over-hype the IT support. For those who are reasonably tech-savvy, I don't see that as a sufficient reason to take their offer. If you aren't comfortable troubleshooting a laptop, then their support might be worth doing this. A better reason would be if you want a new, good computer for relatively cheap. The software bundled with the computer is also good, so that'd be another reason to do this. Another good reason is that they given you a loaner if yours needs repair - I wish I could pay for that support w/o taking the laptop.
If you have a Mac, the discussion board for Kellogg admits has a thread dedicated to using Macs at Kellogg. Sounds like a lot of trouble, but the Mac lovers don't seem to mind. I love Macs and used to have one, but I'd take Kellogg's offer if I were a Mac user today.
