I got my financial aid package yesterday. Unfortunately, Kellogg does not offer merit/need based scholarships for international students. Unless you got one of the few named scholarships, the package for international students will basically provide the amount for which you qualify for loans.

So who's in for DAK II? I just booked my hotel (el cheapo Best Western). I added an extra night because us 1Yers need to find an apartment asap.

Should we plan a GC meet-up?
Already booked everything. Staying at the Hilton for Thu, Fri and Sat nights. Very excited - looking forward to a fun weekend.

Flight gets to ORD at 5:10pm on Thursday, so I may be able to meet up for dinner before the reception at 8. Regardless, I definitely want to hang out with you guys at some point during the weekend.

If you guys haven't booked yet. Try to get in so we can plan for a dinner at like 6:00-6:30ish. If you guys get in to Ohare around 5:00 to 5:30 that would work alright. Midway is a longer trip to evanston though.

I get in to ORD at 5:48pm, so I may be a little late getting to dinner, but could probably make it by 6:30-7pm depending on traffic.

Hi All,

I am still not able to login into the admitted students website. I got the call on March 17th. How long does it typically take to be activated?

BTW when is DAK II?

Thanks

Mine was activated the next day, but I've heard of others taking much longer. I'm sure they can help you with this if it isn't activated within the next few business days.

DAK II is April 24-26. Hope to see you there!

Congrats again on the admit.

 My delivery date is right around that time.

Can someone tell me how much I am going to miss.

Let me know if any of you are planning to meet any time soon. Would be happy to get in touch.

Saras - once you can get on the admitted student weekend, there's a discussion board where admitted students in a variety of US and int'l cities are planning happy hours and other meetups. For example, a bunch of us NYC area admits are getting together on April 2.

Saras, you have to get you login information from your welcome packet. It's different from you status check login. Alternately, you can call your contact in the admissions office and they can give it to you over the phone. I told her I wanted to get DAK info and was worried I wouldn't have time when my package arrived since I live internationally, and it was no problem.

Also, did you say delivery date? Congratulations! (and good luck!)

Has anyone looked at regular finance (FINC-430) vs. "Turbo" (FINC-440)? I've never taken finance but have a strong non-financial quantitative background, so I wonder how crazy it'd be to go for 440. It'd be nice to get to the more advanced courses in finance (or to electives in other areas) more quickly, hence my attraction to 440. Thoughts?

Here are the descriptions:
Finance I (FINC-430): https://www20.kellogg.northwestern.edu/dpco/offdtl.asp?course_id=FINC-430-0
Finance I/II ("Turbo", FINC-440): https://www20.kellogg.northwestern.edu/dpco/offdtl.asp?course_id=FINC-440-0

Here's more information regarding Turbo:

Thanks for the links. I've been thinking about the same thing. Since I'm MMM, I think Turbo is expected, although you have the option of taking Finance 1 and 2 instead. I'm in basically the same boat as you as far as background goes. I have to say I'm leaning towards the regular finance classes, but we'll see...

I was a Finance undergrad and will definitely take Turbo. However, I am thinking about trying to waive Finance I and take Finance II by itself. It really wouldn't be that hard to study Finance over the summer and give my self a refresher for the exam.

Also, I know there are several classes I'm going to need to do some studying for this summer so I can be way ahead for Fall semester (Micro, Stat). I need to make a 4.0 in the fall for IB recruiting in January. It would certainly alleviate any doubts about my UG GPA.

I wouldn't worry too much about not having any finance in your background. I asked this same question to a bunch of MMMs during DAK and the general consensus was that even without a finance class in your past, you will be fine taking Turbo and that you are better off having more chance to take elective later on.

That's good to hear. Any ideas what I should do in the meantime to get ready?

I may try and look at the syllabus' for some of the classes I think will be really tough and buy the text book on Amazon. Study it every now and again.

One cool thing about Kellogg is that you can take 3, 4, or 5 classes in a quarter and you don't have to pay less. You need 24.5 credits to graduate (so 4 per quarter), but can take more electives if you want or have the time. I would probably try and take an extra class in the Spring quarter to prepare for my internship, and then an extra class before I graduate just to get my money's worth. Also, I believe you can take one or two classes Pass/Fail.
