So, I have two main questions, mostly for River, but anyone else feel free to chime in.
1. Do most students take the university health plan?
It seems a little high for me at about $200 a month for the coverage you receive. I'm trying to price around, but it seems you can get similar insurance for around $150 -$175 a month. What are your thoughts?
2. I've been looking at housing options and it seems Optima would be a great place for me and a roommate that will be named later. Is $2,100 for a 2 BR about average, low, or high end? Also what would be your recommendations for a single guy looking for an in unit W/D, close location to campus, and downtown? Other features are negotiable. 1500 Chicago Ave. also seems nice, isn't that where Jerz is planning to live? Where do most of the single students live?
Any help would be appreciated. Maybe it's time for a River's Guide to Evanston Housing Options?

JB-- I can't speak to Optima in Evanston but I own an Optima condo in Scottsdale Camelview and I'm very familiar with the builder/architect, David Hovey. Here's the website: https://www.optimaweb.com/ He was named the world's foremost architect in 2006 by Robb Report and his buildings are awesome. Again, I don't know about Evanston but $2,100 for a two bedroom would be a very good deal in my complex.
Be sure to look into the amenities. For example, we've got indoor basketball, racquetball, olympic pool, steam sauna (great for hangovers), and a convention center. Outside we've got multiple pools/spas, a putting green, and a dog park. As a tenant, you won't have to pay any of the dues either.

I don't know about the health plan since I haven't shopped around. My gut feel though is that $200/month isn't bad when you don't have an employer picking up a portion of the cost.
For housing, $2100 is on the higher end for a 2BR in Evanston, though reasonable for units with the types of amenities that pguard described. I did put in an application for 1500 Chicago. I think about 85% or so of that building is Kellogg students. I wasn't looking for a 2BR, but if I remember I think they were going for about $1400 a month there. The units there don't have in-unit W/D, but there are W/D in the building. From what the students said on the housing tours, most apartments don't have in-unit W/D, but if you find a condo for rent those units sometimes do. There's a spreadsheet on the housing section of the admitted student site that has a bunch of information on housing, including rent and amenities.
