I am not hard to find at all, although I'm marginally harder now that I've changed my nickname here so it doesn't include my first name.

rca- on your earlier questions:

- At DAK our section leaders said that most students use the Kellogg laptops and are happy with them. The people who don't use them generally had their own laptops prior to school that they continue to use. The price isn't bad considering the regular price of a Lenovo laptop. Personally I'm still going back and forth on it but am leaning towards getting a Lenovo X200 with the on-site warranty and laptop protection. The Kellogg laptop is a bit bulky and heavy, and I just really like the X200.

- For the medical records form, the non-healthcare version of the form has a check box if you're going to be a Kellogg student, so I think they just used the wrong link on the admitted students site. I haven't gotten that far on my to-do list though, and I planned on calling them before using it just to be sure.

Thanks for the responses Jerz.

I think I will shop around a bit for something smaller (and maybe cheaper) before committing, but the KLP seems like a pretty good back-up.

I have a message in with someone at the admissions office regarding the medical form, so I'll let the board know what I hear. Unfortunately for me I would have to submit this by May 1st for the summer semester, so I've got to get moving on it. The hardest part is finding which doctor has my immunization record and getting it to a doctor near me to fill out the form. :(

Do you guys think we can now attend Kellogg alumni meetings? There is one next week in Houston and I would love to start my networking now. I was thinking I might email the Office of Alumni Whatever before I email the Chapter President, but I'm not sure.

I'd consider reaching out to the alumni office first, just to be sure they don't mind your doing this. I doubt they would mind - I don't see any reason they wouldn't want you to do this, and in fact, seems like they'd want you to (would probably help the school snag you). But, no harm in asking to be sure, and doing so wouldn't take much effort. Also, if you do ask, could you post the answer? I'd be interested in knowing - would be fun to attend some events.

I agree with checking with the school first. At DAK someone asked a question about contacting alumni and while they didn't outright say not to do it, the response made it seem like it wasn't exactly encouraged either.

Adcom said "That should be fine. Just reach out and ask if it would be appropriate for you to attend the meeting."

My email: "I was recently admitted as a student to Kellogg for the class of 2011 and was wondering if there are any opportunities this spring through the alumni club to network with current Kellogg alumni? I am hoping to meet as many alumni as possible between now and this fall to better prepare myself for school. Any help you could provide in meeting some of your fellow alums would be fantastic. Thank you for your time."

Response: "Getting on a plane now but we have a meeting Mar 24 6pm at the Ragin Cajun on Richmond. Check the website and let me know if issues exist."

Seems like I'm good to go.

My take on the interacting with alumni issue...mind you I work with the alumni relations people a lot. Most schools, including Kellogg sort of frown on admits interacting with alums since you arent a student at the school yet. I know you wont get access to Kellogg's alumni database until you actually begin attending the school. The issue is students hit up alums all the time for information, career advice, and networking, some alums get contacted insanely often. Alums dont want to say no to people but their time is limited and valuable, so put yourself in the shoes of an alum or current students. Do you want to hurt the school by not talking to admits if they contact you? Probably not but do you want to talk to them...some might but lots probably dont care realizing not all of them end up as students. If you were a student do you want to not be able to arrange time with an alum because they are talking with an applicant/admit...no.

Honestly, I dont see the benefit of talking to alumni prior to school really. Trust me you will do tons of networking once you arrive...and most alums could care less about talking with admits at this point. Sure they want you to come to the school but why talk to them about the school when you can talk to students. Students also are a great one stop source for information on careers and companies. I networked with a very large number of alums in a lot of companies, in several different industries and functions. I think having someone that has brought that info together along with a first hand view of what current recruiting and career opportunities are like are much more valuable to you guys at this point.

So, I was looking through the DAK1 photos and list of R1 admits and have to brag on my UG school for a minute. There were 4 people + me = 5 from the University of Georgia, highest in the SEC. Vanderbilt had 3, Florida had 1, and Kentucky had 1. I'm impressed, so go Dawgs!!!

One other thought is that it also seems everyone else is either from an Ivy League school, Stanford, Virginia, or Michigan.

Thanks for posting that link jb32. I had no idea they posted those pics yet. Our DAK1 section leaders said that picture follows you around the whole time you are a student. They said a lot of theirs were bad due to hangovers...luckily I don't think mine turned out too bad even though I was totally worn out by that point in the weekend.

maverick, did they mention if there is another opportunity to get the picture done during CIM. Like you, I was exhausted by that point in the weekend and ended up ditching that afternoon to go and take a nap.

I don't think they mentioned that. It sounded like the only other option is to submit a picture of yourself. They said the requirements (background, size, etc) are pretty strict...I could be wrong, but I'm sure it's not a big deal either way.

You can submit your own or they take it during CIM. Its not that hard to submit your own, just have to pick the right size and resolution.

Wow I didn't realize they posted all our pictures up already. Definitely helped me remember a few names of people I met.

Question for the other R1 admits - have you guys received your financial aid info already? I sent mine in the week before DAK, then finally received an email earlier this week asking some follow ups on info I submitted on FAFSA and the Kellogg fin aid application, and haven't heard anything since. I'm probably going to call them today to make sure they have what they need now, but just curious if everyone else's took this much time.

I just got mine yesterday. I submitted my FAFSA towards the end of February, but didn't get everything else in until the 6th of March. So, just under two weeks turnaround I guess. I'm very grateful for what I got, but it's still frightening just how much this whole thing is going to cost. Nothing like that 8.5% interest rate on GRAD-Plus...
