They are way better about being helpful on the phone instead of via email. I've emailed kellogg before about stuff and never heard back - I'm guessing they get a lot of emails and just can't respond to them...

Steel, River - how important do you think it is to close an apartment before DAK II?

If I just show up in August will it really be that hard to find a suitable place to live?

Would you say that Maple to the East, Noyes to the north and Davis to the South are the borders of "as far from the school as you want to live" if you are a walker?

I had to find a place by May 1st because I traveled internationally over the summer. You'll definitely get a better pick of the litter before DAK II, but I think if you get a place in May/June you could be ok. A lot of the leases end at the end of May/June/July because of graduation of both Kellogg and Undergrad in those time frames. However, lots of these leases are snatched up obviously before May 1.

Generally you get the best selection now, but if you need to wait, there will still be good options. Some of the hot spots might fill up (see Park Evanston and Evanston Galleria).

As for borders, Noyes to the North is about right before you get into undergrad land (I know a couple friends who live on Sherman north of Emerson, one couple from your neck of the woods actually). Oak is ok to the West south of Church (there are a couple good complexes there) - but is stretching it for walking in the winter. Davis is about as far as I'd want to go to the south, but Lake is manageable (Dempster is a bit too far in my opinion, unless you don't want people coming over to your place ever hehe).

Yes it will be harder to find the right place, you might end up paying more too since the pickings will be far slimmer. Its doable, I have friends who got places in August, one of whom is in the same building same style of unit as us but is paying $400 more since thats what was left.

Very few people live north of Emerson, but thats due to where housing is. You can go east to about Ridge and be OK walking and you can go south to about Lake. People do live further than that and walk so its not horrible, especially if you have a bike. I think that housing just happens to be concentrated more within those boundaries.

Why you so torn, just come to Kellogg...they obviously want you more. Find a place now and stop stressing the decision.

Thanks. I'm actually looking at something around Sherman and Noyes that allows dogs. Will I be way off the acceptable living area?

And to be honest I'm not really torn. It's just hard to give up the amazing things Booth has to offer, even if the gut and pro con lists lead me to Kellogg. Seriously though, at this point, barring surprise money from Booth its going to be Kellogg based on personal fit and career path (I will be focusing on entrepreneurship but the thing I would like to strengthen the most is marketing - so Kellogg gets the edge).

Thanks. If anyone else is search for a pet friendly places, I have done a ton of research so feel free to speak with me.

I would love to live in the Evanston Galleria but it seems kind of pricy. Is it reasonable to find anything under 1,500 over there? It seems prices for 1BR start at aroudn 2000 there.

Called the Fin Aid folks. They said I should most likely hear by the end of next week.

Also, just discovered that I can get into my Kellogg email address.

If your dog is small then you will have an easier time finding a place. However, a lot of the places still run 1600-2000 for the "nicer" places. Even the vintage places are pretty nice, they just dont have things like washer/dryer in unit. I know all the optimas, evanston place, and a few others all allow small dogs. The Reserve does too but its definitely out of the way and I dont know anyone who lives there.

Yeah. The Reserve is gorgeous but its just too far away for me. Looking for something a little more in the middle.

Anyone going to the Alumni/Admitted Students reception in Boston on 4/21? I'm definitely planning to be there. It's hosted by Joel Tillinghast of Fidelity, Morningstar's "Stockpicker of the Decade".

Do we have to submit an official transcript to Kellogg? I can't find that anywhere on the site. The only mention I can find is on the to-do list: https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/we ... 0List.aspx

Quote:
Supply Transcripts
Bring at least one copy of each of your academic transcripts when you arrive, for your records and for recruiters. If you have taken classes since being admitted, you must send a final transcript to Kellogg and bring a copy for yourself.

I don't have to submit an official one to admissions? jb32, why did you send yours in (mentioned it a few pages back)...

I sent an official transcript as well. See the "Enroll at Kellogg" page: https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/we ... llogg.aspx. The page says "Your intention to enroll will be confirmed by receipt of your tuition deposit slip included with your welcome packet, nonrefundable $1500.00 deposit and official copies of all academic transcripts."

The request that you bring transcripts when you arrive on campus is unrelated to the enrollment decision. It's good record-keeping for yourself, it'll ensure that the school has your latest records, and it'll facilitate the recruitment process.

Just a heads up to Kelloggers planning to get an AT&T plan or who already have an AT&T plan - using your Kellogg email address you can get a discount of about 15% off standard rates (plus some deals on phones that I didn't really look into).

Go to the link below, input your info and you will get an email to your Kellogg address with instructions on how to activate it. It says it takes 1-2 billings cycles to implement the changes but it looks like the new rate is already up there for me (at least the voice part).
