Just a heads up to Kelloggers planning to get an AT&T plan or who already have an AT&T plan - using your Kellogg email address you can get a discount of about 15% off standard rates (plus some deals on phones that I didn't really look into).

Go to the link below, input your info and you will get an email to your Kellogg address with instructions on how to activate it. It says it takes 1-2 billings cycles to implement the changes but it looks like the new rate is already up there for me (at least the voice part).

Awesome - perfect for iPhone 3.0...

Question for River/Steel/Current Students:

How do most Kellogg students display the need/merit based scholarships on their resumes, if they do display them at all?

I know at other schools students may include an "Awards" section in the resume and say something along the lines of "Awards: XYZ Fellowship, given in recognition of leadership potential and academic achievements."

For Kellogg students recieving need/merit based aid, do they mention it on the resume? Since that form of aid is not clearly stated as purely merit based, and since a high percentage of Kellogg students recieve such aid, I am not sure if people will put it on there to beef up their resume. Just curious as to what the standard Kellogg practice is in that area.

I'd say the typical standard is that people (if they choose to put it on their resume, some don't) who get named scholarships will put the named scholarship on their resume with a little blurb like the one you have above on what the scholarship was awarded for. As for the decision to put a named scholarship on your resume, it comes down to the person and the industries that one intends to focus on - I don't think there is a hard and fast rule.

I don't think most people who are given non-named scholarships put that scholarship on their resumes.

I agree with what Steel wrote, I wouldn't put a non-named scholarship on a resume since so many folks get those. However, Kellogg does have a lot of named scholarships/fellowships...if you get one of those and have room its definitely worth putting on. Like a high GMAT it is one more positive check for you. Personally I dont think companies use it as a decision point for offers but it is one more thing that can help a resume stand out when trying to land interviews. This spring I was awarded a named scholarship and the CMC recommended that I put it on my resume if there is room, I already had an internship but I think I may put it on there next year. That said, if you have a corporate scholarship I dont think I would put it on, especially for internships...you never know how a recruiter will take a competitor giving you a scholarship. Only time I would do that is if I was applying to that company.

What exactly defines a named scholarship? I didn't get anything from Kellogg (cursed 1Y rules), but I have one from undergrad that is "School Name Trustees Scholarship". I'm not sure if that merits inclusion on the resume.

Me too - there has to be some decision criteria or simply the number of scholarships rewarded out of the entire class that can add some perspective of what the scholarship means.

Steel/River,

Thanks for the response, that is what I would have figured but was unsure if some might put "Merit Scholarship Recepient" or anything on their resumes even for an unnamed need/merit based scholarship. I got a small amount of need/merit scholarship money from Kellogg and didn't think that it would make it on to my resume, but figured I'd check to see how most Kellogg students handle it. What you guys said definitely makes sense though, and I'd guess since there isn't grade non-disclosure there is a little less room on the resume, and recruiters may be more likely to look at GPA than scholarships when evaluating a resume.

For those of you looking at the Park Evanston and playing with their wiz-bang online furniture-arrangement/floor-plan tool (https://www.parkevanston.com/onebeda.htm):

In case you haven't yet noticed, the scale of the furniture is significantly smaller than that of the floor plans. Kinda obvious, but I thought I'd point this out just in case someone is basing their decision on this. Very convenient of them...and terribly misleading. :yikes

I love how the site says:
"Floor plan square footage, dimensions & scaling are approximate"
"Furniture dimensions are close to accurate"

In other words: the furniture dimensions are reasonable (because furniture can be any size/design they'd like), the floor plan scaling is not correct (why bother?), and the scale of the furniture is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the scale of the floor plan. I.e., this feature is a marketing gimmick, not a valid tool.

Any JD/MBA's out there interested in exercising their JD abilities? Ha. :boxer2

P.S., these smilies are great

I just put 2 80" sofas next to each other along a 13 foot wall, and there's even a small gap between the two. Sweet.

Since I am planning to move furniture and needed to make sure what would fit in the apartment in Evanston - and since I have nothing better to do at work - I actually created a to-scale floor plan in Visio based on a floor plan with measurements provided by the landlord, complete with to-scale furniture based on the actual size of my furniture.

I'm not sure if this would be helpful to anyone else since it's customized to my furniture, but I'm happy to post it here if people are interested. It's based on a 1 bedroom apartment at 1500 Chicago.

I did the same thing in solid works last year (during lunch of course)...was a big help figuring out where stuff would go. Let us know some stuff would fit well and other stuff probably shouldnt go with us.

My roommate and I met pre-DAK, but figured out we'd get an apartment after DAK. Don't think its too late at all.

Nice, that's taking it to a higher level! This would actually be really useful, so if it doesn't take long to post, it'd be great to have.
