Curious of any of the current students had an update on the new building Kellogg has been planning. Do any of you know the current status/timeline for the building? How far along in the design process are they, and is there an expected construction start/delivery date at this point? More importantly, what, if any, are the opportunities for current students to get involved in the design/construction process for the new building? Is there a student committee focused on this, or any opportunity for the real estate or other students to work on the development of the new building?
They have the site on the lake looking towards the city (prime real estate, I believe they have an architect but not sure on that...they have agreed on the sale price of Jacobs to the university and then an accepted budget for the building (in the $250 million range...which is double what Booth's awesome building cost). The plan is to double the square footage for student space, I think it will be the largest b-school building out there in terms of space for students.

As for student involvement, I do believe they have a focus group and I am sure as the process progresses they will increase involvement. Timeline, I haven't heard any details on that but unlike some other schools that are putting their projects on hold...Kellogg is going forward with theirs as planned.

Thanks River, very helpful. It would be pretty cool to help with the design, or take it a step further and make a lab course that involved project managment of the construction process. Would be much different than doing a residential/commercial development due to the product type but would still be interesting.

As for status timeline - I'm not sure. I think we're supposed to have a site kickoff sometime towards the end of school (i.e. a big party on the site of the new building).

As for opportunities, there have been 2 or 3 polls go out to the student body with regards to requirements for the new building. So thats an opportunity for all students to get involved.

I do believe that there is a student committee in KSA that is aligned towards the new building. I'm also pretty sure that there are current students on the official building committee for all of Kellogg (i.e. the one all the deans sit on).

So just got my fin aid package from Kellogg. It's definitely more generous than I expected! Looks like a tough decision ahead.

Just returned from the DC Kellogg admitted student reception at the National Press Club in DC. My four take aways.

1.) I am continual impressed with every prospective student, current student, alumni, and staff member I have met throughout this process. All in all some of the most down to earth, friendly, intelligent, can hold a conversation people I have ever encountered.

2.) Kellogg has cool swag. Earlier this year, I was getting ready to buy a neoprine sleve for my work laptop. I hate those bulky laptop bags, much prefer to carry it in my cloth shoulderbag. Glad I didn't cause sure enough, we got one with out welcome packet. Then again, not even three days ago I was thinking that I probably needed to upgrade my current business card holder (paper clip) to something a little less embarrassing. Sure as heck, our little gift of appreciation tonight was a shiny new Kellogg business card holder.

3.) DC is the greatest city in the world and I'm glad that there are ample opportunities for Kellogg grads here.

4.) Kellogg puts on some pretty kick a** events at some pretty cool locations.

I can't wait to get this show on the road!!!!
