domtri,
Correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is that DECS-433 and DECS-434 are for regular 2Ys and the MMM equivalent for these two classes are OPNS-440-A (Analytical Methods for Operations I) and OPNS-440-B (Analytical Methods for Operations II) respectively. The Core course waiver section for MMMs says:

"...MMM students may request to waive several of the first-year required core courses, but no one may waive MORS-430 (Leadership in Organizations) , MGMT-431 (Business Strategy), OPNS-440-A (Analytical Methods for Operations I), OPNS-440-B (Analytical Methods for Operations II), or the McCormick classes DSGN-490 and IEMS0471. ..."

I think our schedule may just look something like: OPNS 440 (Analytical Methods for Operations), ACCT 430 (Accounting for Decision Making), MGT 431 (Business Strategy) and either MKTG 430 (Marketing) or FIN 440 (Turbo Finance).

Steel, River: Since we don't have bidding points in the first quarter, how do we make sure we get Grayson or Hennesy for Marketing or Mazzeo for Strategy? Is it just a random stroke of luck?

I think MMM's still have take DECS 434 but not 433, you can waive out of both but many take 434.

Getting professors in the fall is a little bit of luck. There are several great strategy profs but those are by section, they tend not to let people switch out of those. I think we had maybe 2 or 3 people who weren't in my section but that is it. Last year I switched out of Fin and into Marketing in the fall. You can do that during the add drop period. I dont even know if anyone else teaches in the fall...its possible but I dont remember.

Yeah, that makes sense. I saw that also, but didn't make the connection that OPNs-440 was a replacement for DECs.

Yup - you get assigned to a section for your chosen electives (Marketing, Finance, Econ) - then there is a free for all during add drop. I was assigned Grayson and decided I wouldn't change that up (i.e. switch into Henessey) - but dropped Finance in order to add M-Lab.

I was a a Pol Sci/History undergrad so I don't really have waiver options. Is there an advantage of choosing Finance in the first quarter if my undergrad quant background is light? My thought was to take Finance in the first quarter and try to score well so I can demonstrate to recruiters that I am able to excel in quant courses. Any recommendations?

I'm in the exact same boat, although I did take two semesters of calc and statistics. Unfortunately, it was seven years ago. Anyhow, I was thinking the same thing re: finance, although I was going to up the ante by doing Turbo Finance.

I thought Marketing was harder but then again I come from a pretty quant heavy background. Marketing wasn't difficult but it had a pretty big volume of work. I think all the professors teaching both those classes next fall and winter are very good or great. Last year Hennessey was the only marketing professor who taught during the winter. Whatever you take in the fall will be more competitive than if you take it in the winter most likely. Fin will be filled with former finance people (a surprising number of folks dont waive stuff they easily could have) and wannabe bankers...and marketing is going to be filled a lot of former/future marketing people.

My advice is do what is going to be a bigger benefit to recruiting for you. Obviously if you are going to do finance for a career you probably want to take fin 1 in the fall but someone going into CPG marketing will want to take marketing.

Also as FYI - the 7/1 deadline for medical records forms applies primarily to your part of the form. Any piece that needs physician signatures can come after the deadline and you won't be fined. At least that's what the lady at Health Services said :)

Not me. Just selected my respective loan companies on Caesar. I thought you apply at the lender at a later time...?

Funny timing. I just got the promissory notes in the mail today. Ugh, I feel sick seeing these numbers.

Same here, I selected Discover from the drop down menu's on the accept financial aid screen in caesar, and just got 6 different letters from Discover yesterday. Haven't gone through all of them yet but it looks like MPNs and other disclosures.

Looks like they've named Prof Sunil Chopra to be Interim Dean.
