New R2 admit here. Now I've got a tough decision to make between Haas and Kellogg. I went to Days at Haas two weeks ago and really enjoyed the school and all the people I met, plus staying in California (and its weather) is a bonus.

Further complicating things is the fact that Haas gave me a pretty nice scholarship offer, and Kellogg hasn't said anything about scholarships so far. Unfortunately I won't be able to make DAK II because I already had a Hawaii vacation planned for that week, but I may look at another weekend to do an unofficial visit.

I'm all ears if anyone has advice one way or another on my situation.

hey emont, I have a similar dilemma. i got into haas, yale, & kellogg, and waiting on sloan. I'm thinking it will come down to kellogg and sloan (if I get in), and am unsure which direction I will go. I'm visiting Haas on March 25th-28th, and will be at Kellogg for DAH, so let's see what happens!

I was admitted in R1 with no scholarship during the initial call, but was called about 3 weeks later by admissions with a substantial scholarship offer. So there is always hope for that as well. And congrats on the acceptance!

Did you do anything special to get the scholarship? Specifically, had you submitted your request for financial aid?

I just got accepted R2 this week and am trying to get my head around the financial aspects and procedures... Seriously need a scholarship

I did submit my financial aid form, but it was a named scholarship, so I believe that the financial aid form has no bearing on those scholarships. During the call, Beth mentioned that they meet regularly to determine who to award these to. So hang tight! However, I do recommend filling out the financial aid info ASAP. As people have mentioned, Kellogg is very generous with grants etc, but the earlier you get your info in, the better your chances are.

Just got news of my Admit last Friday...still taking time to sink in! Congrats to all fellow admits. I am planning to attend DAK II and hope to meet quite a few of you there..

I am a 1Y MBA and given the short time wanted to get a headstart on post-MBA plans. Do any of you know of any resources (books or anything else) which gives a good idea of the different career tracks post MBA? For example what does a typical mgmt consulting or a in Investment Banking (various specific roles) or PE involve.. And also what are companies in each kind of roles looking for in their candidates...I know its a hard to compile list..but would be an invaluable resource..

I do have a long term goal and a specific industry in mind..however I would like to explore all the short term possibilities..

I know reaching out to friends and alums works best. However I do not have any friends who are in or went to B-School :(... Will work on utilizing the Kellogg alum network in the coming days..

Thanks and lets rock when we get to campus!

Unfortunately admitted students don't get access to the Kellogg alumni directory until school starts this fall, but Vault and Wetfeet have pretty good career guides that talk about various post-MBA jobs (consulting, IB, brand management), so that is a good place to start. You may also want to check out the careers forum here since there are discussions on a lot of MBA career paths, with students and alumni weighing in on what recruiting is like, what the job is like, etc.

I also found the 2010 employment report helpful:

Hi,

I just got my admit for MMM program. I am super excited. If there is anyone from India, please pm me.

It might not be possible for me to travel to attend DAK right now, but does school offers any financial incentives for international students to attend DAK?

Have people started looking into housing? Im wondering if McManus is generally a better deal than off-campus options in terms of size, price, and convenience. What are some of the popular apartment complexes that Kellogg students live in?

If you go to DAK you'll get a great lowdown on housing. In addition to a ppt deck listing the popular buildings, pros/cons, and average rent of each, we also had a couple of hours for an "open house" where students living in each building were available to show their units to prospective students. It was a really good way to get a feel for where you might want to live.

McManus is a dorm, in the classic sense. Most of the first years I spoke with preferred off-campus housing because of the additional space and amenities, but there were also people living there who really liked it.

The other thing I learned at DAK 1: Evanston rent is actually higher than Chicago rent (at least right downtown, where most students want to live). It's still lower than NY/DC/LA/SF etc, but not by as much as I was expecting.

Wow, what a photogenic class! Too bad my pic looks like a mugshot.

Also, at a glance, the guy/girl ratio seems surprisingly even...

Hi Guys,
One more question - this one is more immigration related. I guess the admit took me by surprise and off-guard and I dont have everything figured out. This one is immigration related and I would really appreciate any pointers.

Summary of my issue -
Am working in US on a work visa right now and need to do a change of status to F1 (student visa) which my immigration attorney tells me can take anywhere between 3-4 months. Given that I can only apply for the change of status after I receive documentation from school (which will be after Financial Aid decision, which I am guessing is third week of April), I dont think this process will complete by the time 1 year MBA classes start in Jun. So that means I cannot attend the program :(..

So couple of questions -
1. Does anyone has any idea what to do? I am guessing the change of status is not uncommon but since the timing of 1Y MBA is unique, I might be one of a few stuck with this. Any other forum I can take advantage of? Any ideas are welcome

2. Does the school provide any assistance\guidance on this type of immigration related matters?

I am kind of lost right now..

Is the registration for DAK II open? Every time I try to register, it has already selected my DAK weekend as the February weekend and won't let me change it. I know we need to register by April 1 so thought I'd check here before I call the office. Thanks!
