Hi,
Can you please help me in understanding whether I am on the right track in selecting the right schools and starting the admission process for 2012 (aiming to apply in Sep 2011 for Round 1). Looking forward to your help-
I have done some research related to schools which I feel is the right ones for my MBA.Colleges I want to apply-
Interested in analytics and strategy consulting (already working for last 6 months in a analytics consulting firm)
Stretch-Harvard, Chicago Booth
Chance- MIT Sloan, Duke Fuqua, Haas Berkeley, IMD
My education-
1. Bachelors in metallurgy from IIT Kanpur (7/10) rough department rank- 16/42
2. Class 12- 84% and Class 10- 88% ( good acads throughout my career)
3. NTSE scholar, 2 times cleared RMO (Regional Maths Olympiad) and represented my state in INMO. won several other national and state level scholarships (NTSE, National Science Olympiad, Geography Talent Search)
4. Given GMAT twice- 710/5 (april 2010) and 680/5.5 (april 2009)
My work experience
1. Around 56 months of work experience (will have 5.5 years of work ex when I apply)- 1 year as an analyst in a KPO, 3.3 years as an analytics manager for a life insurance company, got promoted to senior manager got to handle a small team of 2 people and in last 6 months, working a Project manager in a analytics consulting firm. Handling a team of 5 people and working for 3-4 projects for a fortune 100 company.
Extracurriculars and Community service
4. Won several prizes in quizzing and robotics during college. Also organised several events in the college fests
5. About community service, has taken active participation in organising blood donation camps along with a spiritual organisation. Also took part as a student guide in helping junior students to adapt the competitive and demanding environment.

Glad to help. Let me run them down:
Harvard - Pushing it quite a bit with 56 months of WE in the bag. HBS is skewing very young and looking to capture people 3-4 years out of college who are just blowing the roof off of typical career progression timelines. I would say this more than a stretch and might encourage taking it off the board and replacing it with Kellogg, a program that values seasoned, experienced people, is very strong in strategy consulting, and also values technical expertise in a variety of disciplines, as evidenced by things like its MMM program.
Booth - Why Booth? It doesn't seem to fit with the others, as it is a finance school first, marketing second ... and then I'd go off the board for things like entrepreneurship rather than strategy consulting. I mean, at the end of the day, all top programs can get you in front of consulting firms and the right recruiters, but it's certainly not what I think of when I think of Booth.
MIT Sloan - Your technical expertise helps, but I'd put it on the "stretch" list. Very hard school to get into. A good choice, but just so you know where it fits into the equation.
Duke - Very good choice.
Haas - Good choice.
IMD - Why this one international program? What does it offer you that others don't? I'm not opposed to IMD, but it's a very unusual lone choice for Europe.
Hit me back on some of these questions over PM and I'm happy to finish my analysis and perhaps suggest a few more ideas.
