Marks in Maths = 3*4x = 12x
Math/history = 4/3
i.e. Marks in History = 9x
Total marks = 4x+12x+9x = 25x = 250
i.e. x = 10
English Marks = 4x = 4*10 = 40

The proportion of his marks in maths and history is 4:3. M:H=4:3
Get the ratio of all three so M:E=3:1 can be written as M:E=3*4:1*4=12:1, and M:H=4:3 =4*3:3*3=12:9
Thus, M:H:E=12:9:4..
M+H+E=250 or 12x+9x+4x=250...25x=250...x=10
English = E = 4x=4*10=40
