Let us see the options.

1) Amanda is heavier than David and Bruce.
A>D and A>B...We can just say that either A or C is heaviest and one of the three, B, C & E, is lightest.

2) Amanda is heavier than Carlos.
A>C, so A>C>B and A>C>E
Thus, either A or D is heaviest and one of the two, B and C, is the lightest.

3) David is lighter than both Bruce and Eva.
B>D and E>D, so C>B,E>D
A could be anywhere.

4) Amanda is heavier than David and Carlos.

for  Confirms the lightest   to answer the second part for the question, the correct answer could also be  David is lighter than both Bruce and Eva. , thus 4 and 3.

Hi all,

Probably a basic question, but when answering TPA questions like these, are we supposed to use the answer marked from one column to select a choice in the other?

For example, I did not consider the information under "Confirms the heaviest" (my answer was "Amanda is heavier than David and Carlos") when answering "Confirms the lightest".

NOTE: In the question stem it does mention "together with the information above", so I literally did not take the answer marked under "Confirms the heaviest" to help answer "Confirms the lightest".

In the cases of many TPA questions, we need to use one answer to get the other.

However, in the case of this question or other questions like it, the point is to find an answer that works ALONE with the information provided to confirm something. So, in a case like this one, if a choice worked only when combined with another, it would not be correct.

So, your approach of not using the answers together is the proper approach.
