To everyone booking or considering booking Ansal University for GMAT, read ahead to know how my personal experience was (test given on 15th Nov, 2022). Watch out for (++) for positive points, (--) for negative points and (==) for neutral points:
1. (++) Only 5 students at a time – There really are only 5 systems and it definitely was quiet when I went to give my exam (11 am IST).
2. (--) Exam started late – My exam started 1 hour late. Out of the 4 other test-takers there, 1-2 were retaking the exam at the same centre and said that their previous exams started on time and the registration was smooth. It wasn't the case that day though. The 1 hour we waited, we had no clue when we were going to start. The invigilator kept saying things like 'wait for 10 more min', 'come back later', 'it will take some time' etc whenever someone went to get an update.
3. (--) System went blank and said 'reconnecting' multiple times – I don't know if this is usual with other centres or it was a connection issue at this specific centre or that specific day, but my exam paused a lot. I have a feeling that the clock was running every time my screen went blank with a 'Wait, you are being reconnected' message, because I was keeping track of it and suddenly at the end of both verbal and quants sections, I had only 5 min remaining with 4-5 questions left to answer. The reconnection issue was manageable in quants if I had already read the question, but was a major pain in the neck during verbal and IR sections. It broke my flow. I was already so exhausted with the waiting and prolonged anxiety; this was an added negative.
4. (==) The invigilator was unprofessional in the sense that he was chatting with me during my break. I did not mind it tbh. It did not bother me too much because I did not respond much. But I was definitely surprised given some of the debriefs I had read about how strict invigilators usually are and how you're supposed to not speak to anyone during breaks.
5. (++) Washrooms are right next to the test room. Big plus point. But you'll find students in there gossiping about the most randomest college things and it feels a little surreal because you're here to give an exam you have been rigorously preparing for for months now; so you're extremely stressed and you're not allowed to talk to anyone. On the other hand, there are people in the same place at the same time worrying about how that one classmate snitched about them to the professor and how they need to get what they deserved. Again, not something that bothered me as it help me relax about the seriousness of the whole scenario and the proximity makes it a plus for me. Also, they're as clean as a college washroom is expected to be, perhaps slightly better. (FYI I'm a female so I have no clue about the men's washroom ob).
Advice. - Go early so you don't waste time finding the room.
- Keep an eye on that clock so if it does reconnect, you can check if the clock was running. That way you can raise it as an issue with GMAC. I couldn't do this. I wish I had.
- Be prepared to see a loooooooot of faces – not of test-takers but of students of the university. I guess I wasn't prepared for this bit personally.
- Practice AWA on an old keyboard attached to a monitor. I was used to typing on Mac and boy, did I struggle to type on those old keyboards with the big keys!
I blame my performance being lower than my official mock scores on the centre. I bet I'd have done much better if my exam didn't start late and the system did not pause for reconnection after everyone 5-6 questions. In any case, I couldn't afford to give a retake and test my hypothesis about my actual performance because I needed time to build my apps for R2.
All the best, y'all! Hopefully your experiences at Ansal will be great!
