Thank you for the response Scott.
I left off a couple details that may be a factor.
My race is White. From reading on here apparently being Indian is somewhat of a disadvantage. I would have not guessed that. I am assuming being White is basically the same deal as well though. But just thought I would clarify.
Also I have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam if that matters at all.
The rush for me to go now is because I am not all that happy at my current job and have realized that I do not want to be a design engineer for the rest of my life. I am pretty sure that is what they have planned for me, as well as taking over my boss's job when he retires in a few years. If I have to sit behind a desk staring at computer programs and performing calculations/designs by hand all day long for too much longer I might go insane....
To go a little more in depth as to what my company does: we basically design/manufacture/install heavy industrial equipment. Basically anything that makes a paper mill, power plant, steel mill, factory, etc. run and operate. Our main focus is in the South East but we perform jobs all across the nation and also in Central/South America and even some in Europe.
The reason I picked Alabama as a back up was becuase of the following:
1) The absolute main reason I picked it is because I figured I have a good shot at scholarship which would be really nice. Obviously if I were accepted into Duke and went, that will be what? 80,000+ in student loans??
2) I was born and raised and as stated currently live in Birmingham which is only 45 minutes from Tuscaloosa. So I would still be close to my family and friends. Not a huge factor, but something to consider.
3) Finally I recently purchased a house in the last year. Obviously this can can be rented out and not really a big deal. But perhaps I would commute from Birmingham. I kind of doubt I would but again it is something to consider.
Again the main reason is for scholarship. If you think I would have a shot at a scholarship from a better school please feel free to share.
Thanks again!
