Lately I have been browsing the sites of the Top MBA Schools. There seems to be a lot people going after these programs. I have a few questions for everyone.
Some of these schools have around 1000+ students.
The question I would like to pose is it really worth it? 1000+ students doesnt really mean that you are shoved in one class & 1 prof teaches. Analyse the student-teacher ratio & then compare if its worth it
If a person does end up going to these schools will the recieve individual attention from professors? The one thing I have learned is that attention and working with professors one on one is the most important thing. I learned the most when I sat down with professors and asked questions and recieved one on one feedback.
You need to be proactive in B School, Spoon feeding was in your school days. B school is for future CEO & Corporate Honchos not little babies. You need something you ask proactively
Are you guaranteed a job when you graduate from one the big schools?I have heard about all the pay packages and etc and I am not sure how much of it is true. Doesn't a person have to do their own networking in order to secure a job anyway.
How do you get a job? Job sites, peers, networks..... Again you expect a B school to say " Hi gmatpunjabi heres a job" then you need to re-look everything. You network, leverage that with your MBA & networks you built in school to get that job. Yes there will be campus interviews but again you have to prove to the company why choosing you is the best thing they'll do
Do companies only care about what school you graduate from?In my opinion a school is a great indicator, but what does prestige mean in this post-2008 economy.
The school you attend is a leverage, after that its all you. Your chances are better if you go to an ivy school all other things remaining constant
Wouldnt Programs with a 1000+ people have less money to give out then programs with only around 100 people?Smaller schools even though they are not presitigious have smaller classes and are willing to give larger endowments.
NO, Depends from school to school & in the end you. What is it you have to offer to the school ?
In the end whats the point of going to these larger programs if a person will come out with a similar knowledge if not better because of 1on1 interaction with professors and overall less debt by attending a less known program? In my opinion if a company only cares about prestige and fails to consider academic achievement or ability why work for such a company anyways?
Which company does this? Seriously !!! Your resume is scanned first where almost everything that you have done professionally is captured including certificates & grades
Please note I am a firm believer in the GMAT I have learned some esstential skills that I feel will use for the rest of life. The Verbal Section has taught me so much I cannot complain.
Please share your opinion?
