Tuesday June 9 2009 - 2010 Applicants CHAT

2) Nink
3) ACNguy
4) triple5soul
5) bipolarbear
6) billyjeans
7) icarus
8) pmenon

So I'm thinking maybe we need a one time scheduled chat to kick off the 2010 application season (and the fall 2009 chat season :-D ). I wasn't ready to start it yet, but it seems Harvard and Stanford have pulled rank and it's officially started. Everyone can meet their fellow applicants, share their favorite tips, and get new fodder for their essays.

If there is interest, everyone list a time zone (or pm me if you feel for some reason yours will give you away) and a preferred time (morning v evening) and I can try to find a time that works.

9PM ET probably makes it ideal for all North American applicants.

However, many Fall 09 applicants are in the chatroom throughout the weekday at work....

I think during the app season, evenings (esp Sunday night for some reason) used to work well for a lot of folks.

Also as fyi, a bunch of us are slacking off at work and are on chat for a good portion of the day. Fellow slackers are always welcome! :)

highhopes,

something that has come up in the past is to have topic focused chats. So for example, you may invite students who are either matriculating at or attending a school, and let the conversation flow.

we need people to have some discipline to not veer off the subject, so you might need someone to moderate. Just to let you know - isa, nink, solaris and zoinnk have operator control in the chat room. I will add you to this list.

please let us know if you need anything from us.

thanks :)

Alright, I have been away for awhile. I am officially scheduling Tuesday June 9 @ 9 ET. If I'm the only one there, I will talk to myself, so don't let that happen :(

Sorry won't be able to make it! I'll be on an airplane during the chat (I think I'm calculating the time difference correctly).

One idea: might help to keep a list of the questions that come up. Then, if someone's willing, create a thread with the questions where people not at the chat can post their replies. Or maybe add them to the "best app tips" thread. :)
