Hello members, I am targeting MiM schools in EU and I am unsure if I should go for round 2 or round 3. I aim to get into schools such as ESCP and ESSEC
My profile :
- Male Engineer graduate from one of the best private colleges in India, CGPA:7.6/10
- Published a research paper with Elsevier and second is under review with Springer
- Obtained full sponsorship from home college to pursue the final semester project from USA
- Received "Achievers Award"(from home college) for exemplary performance at National event
- Chaired and lead 2 student chapters during my bachelors
- Few technical projects including 3-D printing
- A few other extra curricular activities
I am planning to give my GMAT in Mid - December and might score around 610+- 20 marks at its best.
I wanted to know what are my chances of getting into those colleges as I have a average academic history but I believe I have a plus with the international experience, research paper and extra curricular activities.
I might improve my score(maybe push it upto 650) if I apply for round 3 rather than round 2. I request you to please guide me on what you think should be done.
Thankyou
Hi
harshkhatri111,
Beginning your evaluation with your academic background, your GPA of 7.6 is decent however when compared to other applicants it could fall short. Having said that, you can easily overshadow this by justifying the reason behind the average GPA by diverting attention towards your inclination for extracurricular activities, volunteering initiatives and gaining an overall holistic experience.
Talking about your extracurricular, you do possess an impressive and diverse range of activities in the form of leadership roles, initiatives taken, international exposure and published a research paper. You can further enhance and elaborate on the same by showcasing how you went above and beyond in your endeavors and how you will be a great value addition to the school. Furthermore, you can also highlight how you honed your soft skills, added value to these endeavors, impacts you created, major takeaways and the exposure you gained from these experiences. In addition to this, I recommend you to take part in volunteering work in an NGO as well as take up certain certifications in the field you would like to build your career in.
Most importantly, you haven’t mentioned any internships or full-time jobs of any kind. So what I can suggest is that you can take up relevant internships in the field you want to build your career in and tray bagging a position at preferably on of the big four brands since it will set you at par with your competitors adorning experiences from KPMG, EY, DELOITTE, etc. Also, given the fact that you will be applying for round 2, you still have time to build up your work profile. Following these experiences, you can later incorporate details highlighting why you chose these companies, the kind of projects you handled, the value you added to these projects, how you built on your finance skills and the major takeaways you were able to gain from the same.
Now coming to your GMAT exam, your target score of 610+ is not very competitive, which is why I suggest you aim for at least a 650 to increase your chances of acceptance supplemented by your extracurricular activities. As for your target schools - ESSEC and ESCP, given your profile details, these schools can be clubbed under the upper competitive category, translating your chances of acceptance to be around 60%.
Furthermore, you should definitely apply in round 2 as the earlier you apply, the higher your chances of acceptance would be.
All said and done, while you have a decent profile, you will be facing a lot of competition from applicants who would have similar if not better profiles than yours. This is where your application would play a huge role in enhancing your chances of getting accepted into your target schools. You would thus need to highlight your profile USP’s and how you can be a great addition to the school whilst posing the right examples in your SOP and essays to legitimize your claim. Additionally, you need to ensure that your LORs and Resume, equally depict the strengths of your profile.
