can we also say that 'As/Because' and 'with the result' are redundant in a sentence.

As the honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed, staying where it is inserted, this results in the act of stinging causing the bee to sustain a fatal injury.

(A) As the honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed, staying where it is inserted, this results in the act of stinging causing
(B) As the heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes
(C) The honeybee’s stinger, heavily barbed and staying where it is inserted, results in the fact that the act of stinging causes
(D) The heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, and results in the act of stinging causing
(E) The honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed and stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes

Since the meaning of this sentence is not difficult to understand, let’s evaluate the errors in this sentence:

Error Analysis:
1. There is no antecedent for “this”. Being a pronoun, “this” must refer to a noun, but from the meaning of the sentence, we know that an action results in something.
2. Also, only an action can “result in” something. We cannot say “a thing” “result in” something.

(D) The heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, and results in the act of stinging causing: Incorrect. It repeats the third error in the original choice.

(E) The honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed and stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes: Correct.

3. Notice the construction of this part “… of stinging causing…”. This is ungrammatical. We can only use a verb-ing word in this construction if it is a modifier-> I did not understand this error completely and I believe that I am making mistakes in most of such questions where there is an -ing modifier and a verb to choose between. Can you please help?

Option elimination -

(A) As the honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed, staying where it is inserted, this results in the act of stinging causing - "this" pronoun refers to what? The act of stinging? But that's incorrect. Pronouns can't refer to actions.

(B) As the heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes - "As" here functions as a conjunction introducing a subordinate clause to share some additional information. But we need an independent clause after the subordinate introduced by "as." "With" introduces a prepositional phrase. So, we have a subordinate clause and prepositional phrase here while we need an independent clause. Wrong.

(C) The honeybee’s stinger, heavily barbed and staying where it is inserted, results in the fact that the act of stinging causes - The core of the sentence is "the stinger results." The stinger, as such, doesn't result in anything it is the act of stinging that results in something. Wrong.

(D) The heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, and results in the act of stinging causing - the same issue as C. The stinger stay and stinger results. Moreover, here we have two items in a list - stays and results - so we don't need a comma before "and."

(E) The honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed and stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes - perfect. The prepositional phrase is adverbial and modifies the verb "stays" and shares the result of it staying where it is inserted.
