- Was Vice-President for student council in undergrad college

Why MBA?
As you must have noticed by now, I have tech consulting experience in highly niche domain of cyber security. Cyber security is a support function in most organizations and there is a glass ceiling to growth. Also being in support role, I won't ever be able to break into business side of things.
Post-MBA goals?
I would like to move into product management role in FAANG companies. I would also like to explore strategy consulting if I get a chance
Long term goal: Start my own tech startup firm
Target Schools
International: INSEAD, Haas, Anderson, Ross
India: ISB, IIM A PGPX, IIM B EPGP
Questions
1) Is my embarrassing GPA going to stop me from attending top school?
2) Is it going to be difficult to shift functions/industry after 6.5+ years of experience
3) Looking at my profile, Can you suggest some reach and safe international schools?
4) For US schools, does STEM track in MBA hurt chances of getting strategy consulting role post-mba?
Hi
paU1iThanks for posting. Here are our responses:
1. Not necessarily. Many top schools in your consideration set are willing to compensate a lower GPA with a strong GMAT score. However, in case you failed some courses, or graduated late from college on account of clearing backlogs, this is a bit more of an issue. Overall, it is a negative. You can try to overcome it through taking extra college level courses and doing well on them or/and through a solid GMAT (750 and above)
2. This should really not be that much of a problem. We have worked with several people from your background, and post-MBA, almost all of them have been able to make an industry and function shift. As you can understand, post-MBA, hardly anyone goes back to cybersecurity.
3. School selection is a very elaborate process, and we would not recommend doing it with an assumed GMAT score in your case. At this point, you should focus on your GMAT, and try and maximize your score there. At the outset, INSEAD and Haas do look like reach schools for you.
4. No, not at all. People taking STEM tracks do not always go into STEM roles.
