I am worried about my low GMAT score but it will be difficult to retake it again .The years of work experience is not as per the average of 3-5 years
but I personally feel spending 3.5 years as an article assistant and then working as an full time employee for 27 months in the same firm is sufficient .

I will appreciate if you could provide me with some B schools I can target. My preference is US .

GMAT 720 (Q50, V35), AWA 5.0, taken in Nov 2009

Academics:

Bachelor of Science in Physics, GPA 3.85/4.0 (From a top regional university, graduated with honors in May 2009)

MPhil in Management, Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, UK (2010-2011, a TAUGHT course, not a research oriented one), GPA 61% overall, pass rate 60% (this might seem a bit low, but in the past 5 years nobody's GPA in the course exceeded 75%. Spent most of my time in Cambridge on networking events, hence a low GPA, but this ultimately paid off since I found a job thru that network)

Work Experience:

Full Time, Director at a small local Holding Company ($5mln-10mln valued), which has stakes in different companies in very different fields (including the vending machines company where I was previously a director). Mainly responsible for control and management of the companies which comprised the holding and their financial performances. (2012-current)

Back in 2009 apart from applying to Cambridge MPhil in Management program, I also applied to Booth's MBA program (applied in third round) since they were accepting early career applicants. I got an interview, but ultimately got rejected: my best guess - lack of experience. I got suggested to work for few more years and try again.

Now being in my mid career, I am looking for Harvard, Booth, Wharton to start in 2014 preferably (will be around 26 yrs old by then). I want to know two things:

1) Would you recommend me retaking GMAT? (my verbal is a bit low and dont you think my score will be a bit old at the time of an application?)
2) What you think are my chances at my target schools and what other schools would you recommend me?

I am applying to a few Top 10 schools, hoping for Top 5 in early January rounds and scrambling to write essays. I have the following challenges/questions:
* Not much out there about how to position myself as an entrepreneur, esp in essays
* No international experience
* Leadership outside work has been heavy Asian community focused although consistent since graduation
* Relatively old (29) Asian Male Candidate may be stereotyped - not sure how to position my under-represented Asian status
* Retail Manager experience is somewhat un-traditional - most do not pursue MBA.
* Mostly small biz background
* My Verbal GMat score is lower than my practice tests - actually spent time focusing on Quant because i thought it was a weakness - but failed to address Verbal sufficiently. Retake post application?
* BIG PROBLEM - Letters of rec are weak - using biz partner who also sold equity in business, National leader in fraternity, and administrator from college. None are technically "direct supervisors" - cannot use my current supervisor for fear of losing job - and my oldest company has a policy against LORs. Letters of rec already in play/submitted.

Any insight offered concerning what programs I should focus on would be most appreciated.

I'm considering, based on what I believe my profile aligns with, Duke, UVA, Tepper.
Do I have a shot at NYU, Ross, and Columbia? Is there another school that I should look at?

Thanks for your reply, and your insight on UNC. I do feel that KF has a pretty good training program for consulting, but I am still a little unsure of their ability to open doors for MBB placement.

I am applying for a few schools for round 2. At this point in the process, would I benefit from any admissions consulting, or am I past most of the major hurdles?

GMAT 700-740 (Based on practice tests, I'm taking it on January 8)

GPA: 3.91 from a southern public university with degrees in Finance and Political Science
D1 athlete, Honors program graduate, conference honor roll
Study abroad in France for a summer

2 years teaching English in Korea
8 months working at a resort in Guam
3 years running an online marketing firm (owned sites and did SEO and Social Media Marketing for affiliate sales) - before it failed I had three part time employees in the Philippines and was making around $2,000/month.
I can read Korean, but don't speak it past a basic level, have an upper beginner/lower intermediate level of Japanese and whatever college Spanish is worth

My goal is to work internationally, either with a consulting firm or a larger company in sales and marketing. If I'm not able to work internationally after graduation (which I understand is a pretty big likelihood), I'd ideally like to end up in the Southwest or Southeast US.

I'm putting together a list of what MBA schools I'm going to apply for this fall after I take my test, and I want to know what my chances actually are with an elite-level school. So far I'm considering applying to UCLA, Duke, Thunderbird, and UVA. Is it all how I present my experience in my essay or is my application going to get thrown out at certain schools without being looked at because of work experience? What other schools would you suggest that I look at?

Your work experience & extracurriculars seem substaintial. Awesome undergrad GPA, esp given it is in physics. Not so great at Judge, but ok, I understand the UK grading system given I went to London Business School.

Did you spend a lot of time preparing for the GMAT previously? Is there a reason to believe you are capable of getting much higher score?

Your score is right around the average for the top schools, and it helps you're from one of the former USSR country. You'll have to demonstrate leadership capabilities and decision making through work and personal experiences.
