I have been out of college and in the work force for about 10 years now. I have been thinking about where to take my career from this point (I have been a software engineer the whole time). I have given a great deal of thought about going back to school and getting my MBA. This would hopefully allow me to have more options in my career as well as help me move up to corporate ladder. Since I have a family I can’t do a full time-MBA, so I am looking at on-line MBAs.

I have been spending the last couple of weeks looking into MBAs programs. Its seems most if not all of the school require a good score on the GMAT as well as good grades in college. My grades in college weren’t that great and I haven’t taken the GMAT. (I have looked over a couple of books about the GMAT…it is amazing how much you forget in 10 years. Not a test I am looking forward to taking)

I am curious to know how much importance schools put on work experience, grades and GMAT scores? Also, do you know of what top schools offer an all on-line MBA?

Have you considered a part-time MBA program?
Many highly regarded programs offer some form of part-time program.

I have looked into those as well. For me, I would prefer an on-line MBA to a part time MBA. On-line allows me to be home as opposed to going to a campus for a late night. It also give me more options as far as schools go.

I don't know of any top-fifty school offering an entirely online MBA program. If someone else knows of one, please share the information.

Grades, GMAT scores and work experience play collectively a decisive role in admissions decisions at top schools. They are extremely important. It is a highly competitive process and those are the first elements they look at in deciding whom to accept and reject.

EMBA programs are usually at least partially taken on a distance basis.
