12 + 3n = 27

n = 5

Total time = n+1 hrs = 6 hrs

We take n+1 as the initial rental 12$ has one hour included.

B is the correct answer.

OG Q 2017(Book Question: 164)

Total Rent = Rent for First Hour + No of Hours * Rate per hour

27 = 12 + 3 ( No of Hours )
15 = 3 ( No of Hours )

Or, No of Hours ( above first hour) = 5 hours...

So, Total hours worked is 6 hours ( 5 + 1 )

Answer will be (B)

great question!
12+3*hours=27
We need [1 + h?]
h=(27-12)/3
h=5

1+5=6

Answer is B
Beware of not writing 5!

let \(n\) be the total number of renting hours for the tool.
then,
\(Total Rent = 12 +3(n-1)\)
As given, \(Total Rent=27\)
so, \(27=12+3(n-1)\)
\(3(n-1)=27-12=15\)
\(n-1=\frac{15}{3}\)
\(n-1=5\)
\(n=6\)

We can create the equation in which h = the total number of hours of the rental. Note that she paid $12 for the first hour and $3 per hour for the remaining (h - 1) hours. Thus, we have:

12 + 3(h - 1) = 27

12 + 3h - 3 = 27

3h = 18

h = 6

Answer: B
