We need [1 + h?]
h=(27-12)/3
h=5

1+5=6

Beware of not writing 5!

let $$n$$ be the total number of renting hours for the tool.
then,
$$Total Rent = 12 +3(n-1)$$
As given, $$Total Rent=27$$
so, $$27=12+3(n-1)$$
$$3(n-1)=27-12=15$$
$$n-1=\frac{15}{3}$$
$$n-1=5$$
$$n=6$$

Let the total hour is $$x$$

So,

$$12+(x-1)3=27$$

$$12+3x-3=27$$

$$3x=27-9=18$$

$$x= \frac{18}{3}=6$$

$$x= 6$$

The answer is $$B.$$

Total Rent paid for additional hours = Total amt paid - Rent for the first hour
=> 27 - 12 = 15

15/3 = 5 hrs

Total hours = 5 + 1 = 6
