Hi All,
Finally it’s only one month before I fly to Fontainebleau to start my 10 month exciting MBA program at Insead. Before I start my journey, I want to share my unique experience of working with Adam Hoff from Amerasia consulting, and I hope my experience could help more China applicants know how to work remotely with a consulting agent, and understand what the applicant should do and what the consulting agent could help, most importantly, I hope Adam could help more students to become one step closer to their career dream using his expertise and talent.
A little background of me. I am a woman applicant from Shanghai, China, working in consulting industry for 6 years. My hectic job leave me very little time to think about the essays, recommendation letters, and all other application thing. This situation let me think of asking a MBA consulting to help.
My network with a Harvard graduated colleague introduced Adam Hoff to me. At the beginning, I was quite hesitating working with him because 1) Very few( less than 5%) MBA applicants in China used a consulting agent service 2) Adam and I have about 15hours time difference 3) I never knew him. However, I decided to give it a try, and it turned out a very wise decision . Adam’s expertise, professionalism and passion convinced me, and I hired him immediately.
Below is how I felt working with a top MBA consultant like Adam.
1) Adam really knows the appetite of every school, his quick assessment of the match level between me and the target school really set the direction of my application clear, and saved me a lot of time of studying the school
2) A good consultant helped me to say how good I am to schools. To be honest, I don’t know how much I can do and where are my strength in application. During the application process, Adam gave me home work. Each time I finished the homework, Adam edited them. I have to say this editing is really the differentiating factor of a good MBA consultant and a poor one. On scale one to five, I gave Adam five. Because Adam has two unmatched skills, first is his excellent listening skill and compassion with human being, he really got what I was saying; second is his language skill. He made the message of my writing much more punchy and heart gripping to readers.
3) Adam is frank, very frank. This is the key success factor of our 15 hour time difference working relationship. Our communication was purely email based, and there was cases my way of expression was misunderstood by him, given that I am a Chinese. He spoke up immediately, I clarified, and we understood each other. This attitude really improved the communication efficiency.
There are definitely more things than I could write in this review about the help I received from Adam.
Anyone is welcome to send me emails, or leave me a message if there is question about application, using consulting agents.

Thanks!

I started working with Laura Freedman, an MBA admissions consultant at Access Education just two weeks before my MBA application deadline. I was far behind in the process, so Laura made time in her packed schedule to meet with me almost every day and for several hours on the night of the deadline. I was accepted to Wharton with a fellowship!

I spoke to several consultants (including Wharton alumni), but I immediately connected with Laura. Laura has amazing life experiences and is impressively knowledgeable on every subject, which enabled her to truly understand my background (she was traveling through my home country the first time I contacted her!). She was genuinely excited to work with me despite the tight deadline and my low GMAT.

Laura is a genius at storytelling and essay editing. She helped me weave together my thoughts into a cohesive story and pushed me to come up with ideas that I would have never thought of. She is passionate about her clients and cares about their success.

I recommend Laura for any MBA program that you are applying to. She is definitely the go-to person for INSEAD, but she knows other schools’ cultures and processes extremely well.

Looking back, I wish I had started months earlier with Laura. In my short time working with her, Laura went above and beyond what was expected. Not only do I believe that she is the best MBA admissions consultant out there, but she is a great life mentor and role model. I will definitely keep in touch with her throughout my MBA journey and thereafter.

If you have any questions about my experiences working with Laura, please do not hesitate to PM me.

This was a crazy process. I had been planning on getting an MBA for a few years. I would pick up and put down the books, never really making a strong push towards achieving my goal. But in September, I got motivated. I decided I would put in 3 months to study and then 1.5 months applying. I would be in school in a year. Getting that motivated was hard, but I achieved my goal.... for the most part. I was shooting for a 700 but I scored a 690. Surely, that would be enough to get me where I wanted to go, a top-10 program with some money?

Then I started to look at and research my options. I did a truly fantastic job of spinning my wheels. I was getting nowhere, fast. Which programs are a good fit for you? Are you in their 80% of your GPA and GMAT? What about if you're a minority or have unusual aspects in your background, how much does that help or hurt? Where do you want to live? What do you want to do? Why should one of the top ten programs let you in over someone else? Can you put together an application that concisely ties your background, your MBA goals, and your future plans together while at the same time making each school think that you have eyes for them and only them? Oh, and make it believable, witty, grammatically correct, and memorable. Yikes! I knew I needed help.
So I signed up for free consultations with a few of the firms out there. Everyone was nice, everyone was polite, and everyone was smart. But sometimes I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was talking to salesperson. I wanted a personal connection with someone who actually cared. Consultants are expensive and offer no guarantee of anything.... was it worth it?

That’s when I got on the phone with Critical Square. They answered a lot of my questions, gave me some solid advice, as well as told me some hard truths. It never felt rushed – and for a reason, we were on the phone for an hour – and they shot me straight from our very first conversation. The verdict delivered stated I was a long shot for H/S/W. Maybe Wharton was a bit more realistic of a stretch since one of my recommenders was an alumnus but still...long shot. Hard to hear but necessary advice. I took the plunge.

I bought a package and some a-la-carte hours. I thought that was how I could get the most value since I planned on applying to 9 programs. 9 programs and we had 5 weeks to get them done. To be blunt, I couldn't have done it without them. Let me be clear, they didn’t write anything for me or change my profile, but they brought out the best version of me in my applications. Talk more about this, less about that. You’re spinning this the wrong way. These themes are missing. Change the intro. I would write what I thought was a solid essay only to have it reviewed, cut apart, and returned in a much, much better state. Not to mention under the word limits - they have a gift for saying in 5 words what takes you 15. They really helped me polish my profile. I was able to take creative chances in my essays and get honest feedback. It’s such a competitive process that regardless of the outcome, I wanted to make sure I had put my best foot forward.
I received interviews at 5 of the schools I applied to and I will be starting at NYU Stern in the fall with a fellowship. My entire tuition is paid for!

Getting into one of these programs is life changing so make sure that you give it your all. This isn't a process that I would recommend you go in half-heartedly or alone. At the very least give them a call...30 minutes could save your application from being a mess (pun totally intended). So, needless to say…money well spent! I highly recommend Critical Square!

PERSONAL MBA COACH https://www.personalmbacoach.com

I worked with Scott Edinburgh at Personal MBA Coach and I could not have been happier! Scott offers an incredible personal experience that is very hard to find. The fact that you are working with an individual and not a company cannot be emphasized enough. Don't be fooled by the big company name / support services that some larger firms have. At the end of the day you work with one person most of the time so why not work directly with an expert for the same price rather than an employee of a larger firm?

I hired a more well known name referenced on here and was not satisfied as the support died off as it got closer to the deadlines. I then reached out to Scott and was floored by the level of support I got. While we only had a short amount of time since I contacted him late, he took the time to get to know me personally and professionally and he was the one coming up with essay topics after just a couple discussions. Scott is quite tough and it works out in the end. In a very short amount of time, we did an entire HBS application and I ultimately got in. (As well as a couple other programs I turned down)

With Personal MBA Coach, you get a great balance of no BS, direct and brutal feedback while at the same time you have encouraging support throughout the entire process. Whereas with the other more well-known name I felt like I was a number in the process, Scott brainstormed everything with me from start to finish. Scott is a hidden gem in the admissions consulting space and I have sent many friends to him over the years who also had great success!

Hopefully the moderator allows my post, but I'm looking to get a review on the mbaMission Team. In particular, I just had a consultation with Melissa Merchant.
Has any one had her before and how is she?

Much appreciated!

Thank you - asking questions is OK. Posting reviews however is limited to users with 30+ posts due to SPAM and self-promotion. Fire away with questions, however :-)

Hi,

I have benefited much from the Gmat club through the tread discussions and GMAT club tests . I also found my admission consultant through Gmat club. I also thought that I should share my story so that I was in the same place searching for admissions consultants last year. I would give my genuine experience. I have taken both GMAT Guidance (after my 2 attempts with 2 prominent prep) in my third attempt and Admission consulting as well with Experts Global (https://www.expertsglobal.com/)
Here is my story.

GMAT Guidance Program:
I had given GMAT twice (October 2103 and July 2014) and scored 670 on both attempts. I was targeting above 700 and was very much shaken by my score. I had gone through few reviews of Experts Global services and contacted Mr. Mayank and had a counselling with him. He immediately agreed to help me give another shot within 31 days; in fact, on knowing that I had spent a lot already with other test prep companies, I was given a free GMAT course. The course material was tailored to my requirement with personal attention. I would get a detailed weekly schedule to follow every day. There were detailed doubt solving sessions. The material and practice tests provided by them were exhaustive and I didn't get a need to refer to any other course material. Whenever I wanted something extra on a particular topic they always provided me with extra questions and guidance. So with their help I gave my GMAT once again on Aug 2014 and scored 720.

Admission Consulting:
I would say Experts Global’s is an end to end consulting right from B School selection to Visa interview. Experts Global services didn't manipulate your story. They had detailed counselling sessions and conducted serious due diligence in building a story for applications.

They guided me in choosing the Business schools depending on my Goals, scholarship requirement and location. I found their guidance very helpful in choosing the schools to apply. My mentor for the MBA Admission consulting was Mr.Shailesh Otari. I had many consulting sessions with him regarding the school selection and essays for each school I want to apply. Interaction with him helped me bring out the latent aspects of myself and present me as a potential candidate to the admission committee. I had multiple reviews for essays for each school. One best thing I found out with Experts global services was that they don't limit you on the number of reviews unlike other admission consultants. Mr. Shailesh helped me on war footing as I had very less time and I wanted to apply in 1st round to get a good scholarship.

I was assigned another member Ms Aanchal to help me with interview preparation together with Mr Shailesh and I had detailed mock admission interviews with them. They suggested on the points which I should improve such as tone and expression. I had mock interviews multiple times for each school with different set of questions. This gave me a lot of confidence in actual interviews. Mr. Shailesh even introduced me to some of the present students and alumni of the B-schools when required to Know better about the school.

The results were out and I had admissions from multiple schools with scholarship. Some of my admissions are
1. Krannert school of Management, Purdue university ,with GA (85% scholarship)
2.Boston University MS-MBA (70% scholarship)
3.Illinois MBA (60% scholarship)
4.Tippie school of Business ,IOWA (100% scholarship).

Mr. Shailesh even helped me with my Visa interview as well. I would say I got best from Expert Global services and would recommend it to anyone who seriously aspires for MBA from a top B school.

All the best to the future MBA applicants.
