Hi, I am a software engineer with 4 years of experience. I want to Join a well recognised B-school in the mid of 2013. I want to appear for GMAT in next 1 month. Is there some best period to appear for the same keeping in mind that I need to use the score after 2 yrs. And it would be nice if anybody can provide me the details of application process for a well recognised B-school after getting the GMAT score to?
Most programs allow GMAT scores to remain valid for 5 years, so the 2-year delay in your application process is not a problem at all. I recommend taking the exam when you have had ample time to study and are leveling out on your practice scores (ie., you are not erratically scoring a 650 one day, a 710 the next...). Once you have your score, start reviewing school profiles on a site like
https://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/, particularly comparing your GMAT score and age to the averages at each program you are interested in (hint: your age should be just below their average and your GMAT should be above it). Once you've narrowed down the schools at which you stand a chance, take your research to a MUCH deeper level by visiting their websites and forums, getting in touch with students and alumni, visiting their campuses, etc.
