There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
My goal is to get a 600 or above on the GMAT before February. I have been in school for the past 4 years, so I should have no problem studying. Only thing is getting myself motivated, so I plan on taking a GMAT prep course. I have done some research from the resources provided on this site and found that Manhattan is the best. However, the earliest Manhattan course ends in early March and that is too late. My choices now are Kaplan and Princeton, both end at same time (early Feb.) and both cost relatively the same (1599 vs. 1399). I was able to find a comparison of the two but the thread was made back in 2007. I was hoping I could perhaps get some recent feedback on the two.
If I were you, I'd either stick to MGMAT Course or do self study. Looking at the score you're targetting at, you shouldn't have much problem achieving your score if you have the right material, and are able to maintain discipline. The second thing is what some people are not able to maintain and hence joining a classroom program may help . So you may want to look at Kaplan. However, I found their material to be just okayish.
I'm seeing alot of negative reviews regarding Kaplan. Would it be better if I went with Manhattan's Guided Self-Study? I was thinking of going with the Prep Plus option and studying with the recorded video content. Good idea?

I don't know Manhattan's self study guide, but I've used Veritas Prep online course. I have access to the On Demand option, which you use it as a self study guide, and can certainly recommend it. No video content, which in my case is great because my internet speed is extremely slow, but very clear content and useful strategies and tricks.
I have not used self-guided options but Manahattan's material is most respected and through material available. I think one set of company/books can not provide everything. So once you complete any set of books, look for advanced or concentrated material for practice. This is just my suggestion.
I have gone through complete MGMAT guide & also Kaplan online materials.
As per my opinion: MGMAT books are better than Kaplan. Same apply for MGMAT CATs in comparison with Kaplan CATs. But in CR, powerscore is better than MGMAT
