Hi FitnessforFriends

Thanks for reaching out on the forum, it feels good to see you coming out and asking for advice.

Looking at your scores, I can say that you need significant improvement in both Verbal and Quant. Majority of students falter in their GMAT exam because they start their preparation with OG.

This is a major mistake because if you start your preparation by solving OG questions, you are skipping to practicing questions without learning the concepts. This is a trial-and-error based preparation methodology which cause a two-fold problem:

    1. It increases your preparation time by up-to 5X.
    2. You tend to miss out on concepts even after solving many questions.

We have helped more than 25,000 people in last 1 year in achieving their target of a good GMAT score. Maximum people attributed their success to the structured process which we suggested them. I suggest you break your preparation into 3 stages and follow the below plan:

    Stage – 1 --> Learn the concepts
Stage – 2 --> Cement the concepts by practicing a sub-section in Isolation
Stage – 3 --> Become test ready (practicing all the sub-sections together)

If you follow the above approach you can expect your preparation to get over in a timeline of 2-3 months with 18 hours of preparation time per week.

You can also analyse your ability topic-wise and skip stages if you are good in a topic, this will expedite your preparation even further.

I would be happy to explain this Strategy in detail and create personalized milestones for you on a quick call. Please select a time slot that works here.

Hope the above strategy get you to your target score

Hi FitnessforFriends,

The scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. Since that algorithm is proprietary, no GMAT company has an exact match for it, thus CAT scores can vary a bit based on the 'biases' involved in their respective designs. The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC, but retaking a CAT that you've already taken is NOT a realistic way to assess your skills - since you will likely see some 'repeat' questions that you have already faced. Unfortunately, seeing even a couple of repeats can 'throw off' the Scoring Algorithm and impact your pacing, energy levels, fatigue, etc. (meaning that they would likely all appear to be better than they actually are) - so we cannot assume that any of those 'retake' Scores are accurate. Since you've been studying for a year, how many times did you take each of those 2 CATs?

Beyond the 6 Official CATs, the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you correctly take the CAT in a realistic fashion).

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) What type of study routine have you followed over the last year? Did you take any 'time off' during that time? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) Your profile shows an Official Score of 640/Q48/V33. How long ago did you take the Official GMAT?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

1) I have been studying consistently over the last year on average 2 hours a day and longer on weekends.
2) I have used Manhattan GMAT, Kaplan, TTP, Official Guide and Admit Master.
3) I took an official GMAT back in March 2019 last year.

4) My Goal score is 740
5) I would like to take the GMAT again preferably at the end of August/beginning of September this year.
6) I'm planning to apply for Round 1 in September and T15 US Schools is my target with California and New York being at the top of my list
