Hi,
I have an issue and would like your advice on this matter.
I'm being bullied by my boss. It has started few months before the pandemic. Initially, I had planned to just wait till I apply this summer to some MBA programs and hand in my resignation after the admission next year. However, I don't feel I'll be able to continue, without seriously putting my mental health at risk, working for my boss much longer. It's getting more and more difficult.
I have the possibility to consult a doctor and ask for a sick time/leave due to burnout. It can take as long as 1 year before the company will have the right to fire me. I didn't plan for all this to happen but I could use the time to search for another job maybe starting in September 2021 or later (I plan to matriculate in September 2022). During the sick time, I'll still be registered as an employee, so technically, I won't have any employment gap to report.
Also, both my recommenders are former supervisors from other firms. The only issue I can see is the background check process. 2 possibilities: once admitted, either I would still be on sick leave when they'll call (around December/January) OR I'll be back at my company (same, around December/January) and already have negotiated a termination agreement.
Can I go to the doctor or should I keep struggling and pray to not go insane by next year? Besides, there's also a risk I'll be fired, as my feelings toward my boss are quite mutual, he hates me as much as I hate him and would jump at the first chance to fire me (It's not at all due to my performance, but rather the fact that he's a bully and I'm not used to that)
What should I do? My TOP priority is the MBA!
Thanks for your insight!
