A. “Wasting” is wrongly made parallel to “teaching” - “waste” must be parallel to “strive”: The teachers strive to concentrate on teaching rather than waste time on disciplining.
B. The meaning is distorted because “to reduce” is wrongly made parallel to “to introduce” - option B implies that the management intends to introduce a new way and in addition intends to reduce burden, whereas the original meaning is the new way will be driven by … and reduce…..: Thus “reduce” should be parallel to “be driven”. In the other words it should be clear that the new way will reduce the burden.
“To waste” is wrongly made parallel to “to concentrate” - “waste” must be parallel to “strive”: The teachers strive to concentrate on teaching rather than waste time on disciplining.
C. The pronoun “it” is ambiguous. By virtue of parallelism, “it” may be considered to refer to “management” (both are subject of two clauses of the same sentence), but in such case the meaning of the original sentence is distorted. The original meaning is that the new way (and not the management) will encourage,
“While” wrongly introduces a contrast where there is none.
D. Correct. “Encourage” and “reduce” are parallel. “Strive” and “waste” are parallel. The positioning of the modifier “that” is also correct although it does not touch the modified noun “way” - here we see a typical example of an exception to the modifier touch rule because another vital prepositional modifier “of disciplining the student” comes in between.
E. The pronoun “they” has no proper antecedent. The students will not reduce the burden on the teachers, the new way will.
“While” wrongly introduces a contrast where there is none.
“Wasting” is wrongly made parallel to “teaching” - “waste” must be parallel to “strive”: The teachers strive to concentrate on teaching rather than waste time on disciplining.
