Hello,
I was this weekend attending the IE Experience event and I'd like to share my thoughts about it with you.
This is an event that took place for the first time, but that likely will be repeated but I don't know if over this year or the next one. It was a superb marketing event focused on hot shots that IE didn't want to lose over other schools.
There were 3 italians, 1 londoner, 1 german, 2 from New Zealand, 1 Egyptian, 1 Turkish, a few from the USA, me (Spanish) and maybe someone I forgot (sorry). From McK, Komerzbank, Ernst&Young, ...
About the prospective students, many of them were convinced to study at IE before the event and also many of them had a special interest in Spain and South America. A few of them were considering to start a company after the MBA.
The event was very interesting as it included many opportunities to network with current students (from the April 2009 intake) and with many alumni from all backgrounds: entrepreneurs, Spaniards, South American, North Americans, French, Italians, ... They were mainly those who finished at 2007 and 2008, when the crisis had its worst moments.
Obviously all the alumni work currently in Spain.
In addition we sat in a master class by Erik Shlie. It was impressive. And I have hands-on experience with a master class in INSEAD and two real classes in IMD and this from IE I liked it much more, though it was tailored to market the school.
Before attending the event I had concerns about post MBA jobs and salaries because even being Spanish my goal is to start a company or to get a job abroad.
The feedback from the alumni was good enough that it's completely feasible to land a good job but that there are two things to consider: you must be very active at job seeking from the beginning of the MBA and you must bear in mind that knowledge of the local language is a must for many European countries (Spain, France, Germany, ...).
Of course we discussed the issue of not having an EU visa permit and I was warned that this is THE real problem and though some people were able to circumvent it, it would depend on how irreplaceable are as a candidate for future jobs.
Another important note for me was to meet an alumnus which after the IMBA changed from M&A to IB. Although finance is not my desired goal, it was an important point for me to see that IMBA has a established well reputation and it will depend only on you to get your dream job.
I also knew that there are already above 100 students who paid their confirmation fee for the November intake.
If you have concrete questions do not hesitate to ask me.
Bye.
