IE is a very good school and top course, but the main issue is Post MBA Job offers. Looks like IE is not a top school when it comes to Placements. Its very good for Europeans but for Indians, its difficult as Visa constraints are very tighter now a days in EU.They have good placements for EU students as the companies do not need to sponsor visa and other things. Moreover, the EU and latin american students are in majority and easily get jobs because of no visa restrictions.
Satish
But then it turns out to be a problem to find a job in Europe. That's very likely. But what about a job in other parts of the world? Russia? Asia? Australia? USA?

Does the IE MBA help or not? For me that would be the real question. Because problems with visas will be the same for companies recruiting at IE than at LBS/INSEAD/IMD...

Hi Guys,

I have received an admit hours ago and besides being excited, I am also a bit skeptical about joining. My major concerns are financing and job prospects.

People who have got an admit from India: How are you arranging for 50Lakhs ? HDFC gives education loan upto 20L only. We can take a loan of 30K Euros from Caja Madrid but than according to IE Rules we can take loan only from one of their partners. So it can be either CAJA Madrid or HDFC. So how are you guys arranging for rest of the fees ??

Rest: I heard that there are few people especially non-Spanish who didn't even get a job this year. Did you guys get a chance to talk to anyone of them ??

Good to see the forum being active and some one discussing the issues with IE.

I also had a chance to talk to 2 Alumni. If any of you guys are interested, i can forward you the Email communication between me and them.

Any way, the key points were..

I talked to another guy who did his MBA from EDHEC who voiced a similar opinion. I got the admit from IE but iam skeptical now.

BTW- the ADCOM asked me to pay the 6000 Euros in 30 days, i read in this forum that that date can be extended. Has any one tried it ?

Satish

Can you please forward me your conversation to goyal.amit.r@gmail.com

From what you have said regarding Visa constraints, shouldn't it apply to all European schools like INSEAD, IMD, etc ? or is it something specific to IE ?

I don't think the date can be extended but what IE claims is that if you decide to book your seat after those 30 days, you will get it only if it is available, and from what I have read the seats are generally available.

Well that's the Key Question isn't it ?

In IE ( and in General in EU schools), placement does not happen the way it happens in India where in companies visit the school, have interviews and recruit. I hear that Placement cell in IE is not at all good. It only has 3 people working there.
and its not of much help.

However, in INSEAD i believe this is different and placement cell is far more helpful. LBS - well its in London and its reputation is enough to get a job any where.
IMD - I heard/read that it accepts folks who have 7+ years Exp, abroad Experience and who have working visa's (placing such candidates is not a big deal).

So its a bit different in IE compared tho those schools. Has any of you guys paid the 6000 euros and booked a seat ?

If Visa restriction is a big issue, can't we apply for VISA along with college ? I hope it won't be that difficult to get it. Especially UK visa is not that difficult not sure about European.

Let me share my thoughts with you. Disclaimer, I'm Spanish I didn't have your concerns when applying to EU schools, but I had with the US ones.

First, it is possible IE has a small career services. I don't know. But for example, last week I read in Spanish newspapers that Facebook and Google were heavily recruiting in the three b-schools (IESE, IE, ESADE) for their offices all over Europe.

Of course in INSEAD and LBS there will be more companies but also very much competition for the places.

Anyway, I don't think McKinsey won't look at your CV with a MBA from a good European school because they didn't come to the school. If you're profile is good and balanced they'll call you, but if you're just one among many MBAs there will be chances they'll choose any other.

By the way, in Spain the rules for visas haven't been changed. There were no quota for people recieving a MBA before and there is not now, but if a big company makes you an offer, they will get you the visa.

I would like to raise my question again, what about looking for a job out of Europe? it doesn't help an IE MBA?

Most banks wont grant loans greater than 2M without a signing authority as they are guided by IBA guidelines. Look up HDFC Credila by HDFC Ltd - they will help!

okay, to clearify the rumour (probably i started it): the 30 days deadline, yes you need to be careful. I actually booked my seat longer than 30 days, and i didnt receive any warning message or rejection. I guess this deadline applies to, for example, 2 months before it starts. I guess for those who are targeting at Nov intake, there are still 7 months left. So you can slightly delay it without panelty.

Personally i dont think working in Spain post-mba is possible to me, coz (1) i dont think 1 year i can speak fluent Spainish, (2) i dont have advantages of Spain/EU culture background. My ultimate target is Asia and/or Latin America. i think IE is expending itself to Asia/Australia recently, so there could be lots of new opportunities for us. During my interview and examining from different resources, i found IE is being proactive in terms of enlarging its Asian markets. On the other hand, increased connections between China, India and Latina countries indicates there will be a huge business future. I dont want to miss this show.

I think VISA problem applies to everywhere. For example you wont be able to work in Australia even you have graduated from Harvard or Whatorn, you need a sponsor anyway. So if they are willing to hire you, they will fix it.

Thanks for your Clarification. I will write to IE asking them for some more time to adjust the finances.
Coming to your second point about IE expanding it self to Asia/Latin America, do you have some data about this ?

That is very aptly put.

Regarding IE expanding to Asian markets. I also heard that IE is increasing the %age of Asian students in their batch.

I received 2 emails after that. First one had an admission contract and next one was a welcome mail from the Dean.
The 30-day deadline wasn't mentioned anywhere but it said tha t "Remember that places are limited and are reserved only upon receipt of the signed Enrolment Contract and all required documents, therefore we recommend that you secure your place as soon as possible. "

Btw is there any FB group for IE Nov11 intake ? I searched but couldn't find one.

Yes! There is a FB page!

https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=gro ... 08890&ap=1

Its invite only for now, until the MBA date comes closer (to keep confidenciality among those who have not notified they are leaving in their jobs). So just ask to be accepted to join the group!!
