Well, the discussions on this forum have been quite useful. I have been doing some research, talking to some ex-IE students about accommodation, financing, scholarships, professors etc. Have spoken to some people in Germany etc, they say that Madrid is expensive compared to Germany. I am not sure about this. I am from India myself.

However, the discussion can be summed up as follows:
Employment and Visa:
The unemployment rate in Spain is approx around 20 %. Visa situation is definitely grim, but skilled workers are in dd. In case you get hired by a company, then the company will get you the visa. This is what I was told.
Accommodation:
EUR 400-450 on a sharing basis (plus EUR 75 for utilities) per month. I am definitely looking for a shared accommodation . Anyone interested (women), please get in touch immediately !!
Professors:
Some are good and some are really bad. Though, all the professors do not have PhDs.
Food:
I am not very sure about this. Big problem with me is that I am a hard core vegetarian. So, I guess I probably have to allocate more on my food budget.
Financing:
This is the most complex part. I am planning to fund it via loans (maximum you can get from HSBC-Credilla is 20 lacs @ 10.5%) and partly through self financing. I am making my scholarship applications, but as of now am not considering scholarships in my estimated cost sheet. Have heard that Axis Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce etc. offers higher education loans @ interest rates of 13-14%. In case, anyone has done any research on the loan part, please provide some more details.
I have one question: Does IE provide notebooks to the students ? Or, are we required to get our own ? NUS, for instance provides notebooks to its students (at least i am sure it gives discounts on certain models)
On the whole, I am budgeting monthly expenditure of EUR 1200 pm (for food, apartment, conveyance and a little entertainment). Does this sound prudent ?
I have attached an excel file , in which I would request all the IE November 2011 students to fill in their details. It will be a great way to be in touch and will provide us a single point of contact. Please feel free to add on other tabs as you feel appropriate !
Congratulations to everyone who is in !!
Cheers !!

Regarding Loan, HDFC Credila doesn't have a limit of 20Lakhs. I didn't inquire it myself but another guy who went to their Bangalore branch told me so. He asked for a loan of 35Lakhs and the EMI was coming to around 55k/pm for 8 years. I think it is too much to repay in case we don't get a job in Europe.
I am also facing a problem for financing, have applied for the scholarships and hoping for the best.

Vineeta we already have a spreadsheet and Map of the admits on FB group. For privacy issues I am not posting it here.

Are you sure about 35 lakhs loan? I thought it was 20 lakhs, bcoz that is what is mentioned in the IE website.
Well, that's great if we already have a fb group !!

1. Don't get a flat until you get here and see it yourself.
2. Yes, Madrid is more expensive than some parts of Germany but not more expensive than all Germany. Also studying at IE is a big bias, as you won't behave as normal people from Madrid.
3. Why don't you ask for the loans from Caja Madrid/Banca March? Is because of the 30K euros limit? but you could ask for it and top it up with another from your country, which I see have much higher interest rates.
4. IE doesn't provide you with a notebook. You'll have to get yours and my recommendation would be to get it from Dell online.
5. Your budget is good, but if could go up higher if you plan to go out frequently.

That is great piece of information ! Yes a top up loan from different banks could be a good option to explore.
When do you plan to be in Madrid for the November 2011 session? I am contemplating October 2011. Would you suggest coming earlier? Also, about the 3 months exchange programs - do we have to pay extra for the exchange program or its included in the tuition fees ?

I plan to start hiring a flat in Madrid from beginning of october, but as I live 500 km from Madrid, I'm not sure I will since that date already living in Madrid. I want to attend to the onsite finance and quantitative pre-course.
If you're not attending the Spanish classes you shouldn't move earlier.

And I think all expenses (planes, accomodation, ...) are paid by the students.

Hi Chumki,
Instead of starting out a new Excell spreadsheet, I suggest that you join the already existing FB group. There is a similar spreadsheet there where people have already filled out their details.

Hello everybody!

I have applied for IMBA in IE and have an interview in three days, on Thursday. I have searched through this type of forums and asked my friend who has been admitted but I still want to double check : )

Are there any tips you could give regarding the interview and experience you could share?

Thanks in advance : )

I received an interview invite after two weeks of sending the application. I was told that I will know the final answer in two weeks from the interview, so waiting : )

Hi Guyz,

I got thru IE Biz school for April 2011 intake and then got that postponed to Nov 2011 intake.. Currently struggling with my finances.. The feedback I got from alumni (2009-2010 batches) is that its very-2 difficult to get a job for Indians in EU... Is anybody in touch with any alumni who passed out before 2008 and can shed some light on what he/she/they are currently doing...

2009-2010 being bad years world wide for everybody, I just want to cross check whether the -ve feedback that I got for this school is specific to those batches or to the prior batches as well.

Secondly, I got a schoal from the school. But they want me to pay the place securing fee by 13th May which is 2 days from now...Can nebody tell me that whether I can request them to postpone the deadline. Has nebody tried it.

Would really appreciate your inputs :)

Regards

Hi!!

I got a scholarship too from IE; they originally wanted me to pay the place securing fee by april 30th. I asked for an extension of the deadline and gave me till May 13th as well. Im actually paying this fee tomorrow :)

I would send them an email asking them for an extension. "There’s no worse struggle than one that’s not even done".

Hope this helps!!

Hi!
It's great to see so many of you here have got accepted. I am still waiting for the IE ADCOM's decision. But it is strange that it has been 6 weeks now I haven't hear anything...and the longer I wait, I got more anxious!

Can I ask if any of you have done the interview around/after the end of March and have already received their decision or still waiting like me please?

I'd really appreciate if any of you could shed some light on it...many thanks!
