Hi, is it too late to apply to CBS now? I would be kind of a non-traditional candidate for CBS, since I'm not planning to go into finance. My interests are in marketing/consulting/energy/sustainability. My background is in engineering/tech (not IT). I'm a US applicant. Thank you.

Just got an interview invite! Submitted 1/5, went under review 1/8, interview invite 3/18 (not sure what long lag time means).

Anyone know the percentage of applicants who get interview invite and the percentage of invitees who actually get accepted?

Thanks.

Feels like things have really grinded to a halt here. The turnaround period after interview feedback is submitted seems to be lengthening. I'm on 16 days myself...

It is rather late to submit an application for CBS given that they are rolling admissions; however, their official deadline isn't until mid-April. If you have the time, resources, energy, and you REALLY like the school (like you would take a Columbia admit over your Ross admit), then go for it. It's better not to have regrets? Hope that helps.

It's been 3.5 weeks for me since interview complete (after getting through the first part of the process pretty quickly). I'm barely holding onto my sanity.

16 calendar days here too (ie including w-e), I know I may get a feedback at night (given jat lag between Europe and USA) and that simply took my sleep off...

Yet it's 18 calendar days to deadline, at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel

Thanks, zippy10. Columbia had been my dream school for quite a while, until I decided to go into marketing/consulting. With Columbia's reputation being mainly in finance, I hesitated in applying. But like you said, I don't want to have any regrets. I do have some extra time on my hands, and it looks like I won't have to make too many changes to my existing essays. It's going to be a little tough asking my recommenders again since I already told them I'm headed to Ross. Gonna be interesting.

I did have another question, though. Columbia students are known to be very competitive, and I'm a little concerned whether I would be able to fit in, given that my approach is more team-oriented. I'm willing to compete and capable of competing with the very best, but I'm accustomed to a more collegial atmosphere. Perhaps I can turn that into an asset in my application?

I spoke with several recent alums and a current student, and one of the things they loved most was the community. None of them viewed Columbia as competitive and they spoke often of how everyone helps each other out. The current student gave an example of her rugby team playing wharton and was saying how ridiculously competitive and serious wharton was.

I think at any top school, you'll get types who are ultra competitive, but it seems like it's not across the board at Columbia.

Follow up question.

So I just received my formal interview invite and I have a choice of alumni interviewers. Should I request a recent graduate or someone who graduated more than 10 years ago? What are the advantages/disadvantages? Whats your advice?

Interview completed today, 3/18. Standard questions that have been posted here and on other sites.

Invite was on 1/26 and have had a painful time scheduling an interview since I'm not in a major hub city with lots of alumni. Just glad to have it done. Now the fun wait...
