I applied RD a couple days ago - my status just changed to "being printed and prepared for review". Isn't that pretty fast? I was under the impression RD aren't read until after the new year. Would they print it and leave it sitting in a stack for 2 months, or could they be getting a head start?

Interesting. The site states that the review period for regular decision does not begin until after the deadline, so it seems that your application would be sitting in a pile for two months. However, I was told at the information session that there is no advantage to sending in an ED application early when that clearly was false. Those who submitted right away already have their decision notifications. Perhaps they will start reviewing the RD apps right after the ED review period?

I submitted RD last year on Oct 30. I got my interview invite on Jan 7 the first day of review period. Last year the earliest RD invites went on Jan 5 or something. So it's a long wait for RD apps.

Regarding ED, some people apply at the end of ED in order to time it with the other R1 apps. That way if they get in they don't have to pay 6k$ to CBS if they also get admit to another school they prefer more.

Funny, right after I read this response, I checked my email and saw that my application just went under review. Now I'm nervous. Ha!

I'm looking to apply Regular Decision.

My understanding is that CBS is a rolling admissions, and they won't start reviewing until January.

Is there an advantage of submitting the application now, versus the first week in January?

bigfernhead, there is an advantage. Because applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, there are way more open spots at the beginning of the review process than at the end. If you are one of the first people to submit, there will be way more open spots than for those who submit at the deadline.

Hey Praz you mentioned that some people who get in ED don't go. Can't other schools find out that you've gotten into CBS ED and then force you to withdrawl since it's unethical to renege on ED. Can't it also affect your standing at CBS if you don't withdrawl.

Thanks, that was my thought as well.

Anyone started submitting for the regular January deadline? seems as most of the folks I have been reading about are ED candidates.

Even if you're ED applicant, you still get 2 weeks or so to make a decision. So if you're fortunate to receive an admit elsewhere in that timeframe, you can reject the CBS admit and there is nothing unethical about it.

But yes if you do get the admit and paid the $6K and then you decide to go elsewhere, it's unethical and you lose the 6k$. I don't know if schools share admit info to track such people down etc...

Nice sapphireka! Go kick butt!

Does anyone know if many applicants from ED are pushed to the next round? All I've seen so far are acceptances and rejections.

My recommenders told me that they used approximately 2 pages. I do not think there is a word limit. As long as you have new information to bring forward, go for as much as you'd like (but don't become repetitive just to pad word count).

I interviewed with a Columbia alum today. It was a casual setting and lasted about 70 minutes. Main discussion points were-
1. My extra curricular work (volunteering - why I chose to do that, what I did/achieved....)
2. My future goals, short and long and Why Columbia MBA
3. Couple of leadership stories from my professional work that were mentioned in the resume

We did not discuss ethical dilemma, failure, weakness etc. Instead we spent more time digging deep into the 3 points mentioned above. I think it's good to prepare for these kind of broad topics but also make sure you can substantiate your stories and go into more details if need be. Being confident and knowing my stories very well helped me to discuss finer details. I think I did well, hope and pray I get the admit :-) Fingers crossed.

Hi guys,

I interviewed with an alumnus on Monday 10/19, and he said he would submit the feedback that day or the next day. However, I saw that the interview details in the interview system went away on Tuesday night and the alumnus sent me an email Tuesday night saying he has submitted.

I was expecting a "feedback received" email on Wednesday morning (I read what novian wrote earlier), but I never got it. and it's now Thursday afternoon, and I still have not received that confirm email, and I logged into the columbia system and it is still showing as "invited to interview".

Is anyone else in a similar situation who interviewed recently? Is this normal or should I email the admissions office to see what's going on?

Thanks so much,
