I also face Becky2010's predicament. Speaking of Booth v. CBS, in terms of finance outside of NYC (ex: midwest, west coast, south), I know both schools are very reputable and probably more highly regarded than top 20 regional schools that occupy those areas. Considering that I didn't get into any of the top 3 (H/S/W), which school would be best for finance? And that I want to return to my home state (not NY). Even worse, both school's admit weekend are the same weekend so I have to choose one.

From what I have heard from several alumni, current students and recruiters, Booth and Wharton are considered the top schools in the world for Finance.

Perhaps, Rhyme can chime in if he is reading this.

PS: This is purely anecdotal and I am not targeting Finance industry.

For banking, booth and columbia are roughly on par. But when it comes to buyside jobs like hedge funds and investment management, booth has the edge. A lot of top firms in the east coast actually visit booth for campus recruiting, but not columbia.

I actually got waitlisted at Wharton. Personally I would go to Wharton above both Chicago and Columbia, but I would have to wait until the end of R2 to hear back, so I would need to choose before the deposit deadlines (roughly the same time). I'm currently in finance and would prefer to continue in the industry. Thanks for that tidbit of info.

That's really interesting. One would think that Columbia, for its locational advantage, would have an edge with buyside firms in that area.

What is up with these peer schools all having their admit weekend at the same time?

Is there another peer school with its first admit weekend on Feb 11? It really sucks because I would love to be able to attend both.

Random question, even though it's too late now: how long were your recommendation letters, on average, for Booth? One of my recommenders just told me that apparently no page limit was given, so she sent in a leisurely six-page long letter. :? Thankfully, it's double-spaced, so AdCom won't be yawning while reading it.

1.5-2 pages, single spaced. As long as it is a engaging and useful information, I think it's okay.

As far as I know, my recommenders submitted something between 1 1/2 and 3 pages.
I think 6 is way too long.

I wonder if its completely normal to think that, now that its been almost a week since that I submitted, that I am completely doomed. Im finishing up my HBS and kellogg packages and i feel they are SO much better.

I also didnt address my period of unemployment as well either :/ Hope they don't think I'm some bum -- leaving the military for the private world isn't easy. you don't just 'hop' into a new job lol. "yeah, i have no business experience..." doesnt equal "Awesome! your hired!"

It is natural to feel that your later applications are much better. Unless they are vastly different from your first one(s), don't fret.

If I were you, especially if the gap is longer than 1/1.5 months, I would send in an email explaining the gap to the admissions dept. and request them to put it in my file.

Military experience is deeply valued at US business schools, from what I hear. You stand as good a chance as anyone!

BOOTH WAITLIST...has anybody got such an e-mail from ad-com??

For any Chicago Booth applicants feeling anxiety over their current waitlist status, Chicago Booth has good news: "The waitlist is a good place to be because we believe you are a fit for Booth." In an email sent to all Booth wait-listees earlier this week (and that's a lot of emails), Admissions Director Kurt Ahlm announced a modification of his school's earlier announced wait-list timeline. When first-rounders were first cast into Purgatory in December, Booth announced that waitlistees would be reviewed continually as part of the round 2 evaluation process, with waitlist decisions to be announced on March 16th.

It wasn't an email addressed to WL candidates. It was one of 4-5 links included in their periodic newsletter. Everyone who gets their newsletter got the email. Don't worry!

Yup.

Same here. App Status: Submitted & Recs : Not Verified.

If i remember correctly Jan 18th is the day we have to start panicking if the status remains as 'Submitted'.
