Waitlist candidate here-
Anyone know the preferred method of sending new information for the admissions committee, meaning items sent as a separate attachment or written in the body of an email? I had submitted a letter as an attachment, but I read from a blog two years ago that they preferred it to be written in the body of the email. Wondering if I should resubmit with the info as the body of an email, or if that is just overdoing it.

They said in their waitlist letter that all updates should be inline text. Perhaps can call them and ask before re-sending as another email. They're really nice on the phone.

That's odd. In my letter, I can't seem to find that instruction. Regardless, I did call the admissions office and they said that attachments are fine and if they wanted it in another form they would contact me and tell me to send it in a different manner. But moving forward I'll probably keep it in the email.

I did a stupid mistake in my application (R2). I mentioned the start date of my present employment wrong. Anyway I mailed the adcom member and got a reply that she would note it in my file. I think I am fine.

I had submitted a letter as an attachment, but I read from a blog two years ago that they preferred it to be written in the body of the email. They said in their waitlist letter that all updates should be inline text. Perhaps can call them and ask before re-sending as another email. They're really nice on the phone.

They do not explicitly state "in-line"....

How many applicants are placed on the waitlist?
The number of applicants placed on the waitlist will vary from year to year and from deadline to deadline.

Is there a ranking for those who have been placed on the waitlist?
Waitlist candidates are not ranked. All waitlisted applicants will be reviewed as part of the on going evaluation process. If there is a change to your status, or further information is needed, you will be notified via email.

What are my chances of being admitted?
Every application is considered on its own merit and within the context of the entire applicant pool. While we cannot guarantee nor predict your chances of acceptance, we can say that there are a number of applicants who are admitted from the waitlist each year and that your waitlist status signals a sincere interest in having you join us in the Fall of 2011.

Can I speak with the Admission staff regarding my application?
While we are unable to provide you specific feedback about your application, you can contact our office ([email protected]) to address any questions you may have.

Should I come to campus to state my case?
A visit to campus is not necessary, but you are welcome anytime. If you would like to visit Chicago Booth to see what our campus and our student experience is like, you are more than welcome to do so. However, your visit should be more motivated by your desire to experience our community first hand rather than meeting with a committee member to influence your position on the waitlist. To schedule a campus visit please visit https://www.chicagobooth.edu/fulltime/visit/ and sign up.

Should I send additional information?

Although not required, the Admissions Committee will be happy to consider any additional information that you would like to submit. Any material you send should add insight into your qualifications for Chicago Booth beyond what was presented in your original application.

Submit additions to your file to [email protected] with WAITLIST as your subject line.

Due to the volume of inquiries, we will be unable to verify the status of materials submitted for your application. Please let us know by e-mail if you wish to have your named removed from further consideration at [email protected].

I've been admitted to Booth and CBS and I want do Brand Management post mba - now I need to decide between which school? I know CBS and Booth are more known for Finance but anyone know if CBS or Booth are better known for Brand management?

I really wish schools would give you more time to decide, the deadlines for the 1st deposit are like 1 day apart for CBS and Booth :(

Almost everyone will say that Booth is a clear winner over CBS; nevertheless, I would say they are peer schools, and the employment reports will show this. It is true; nevertheless, that Booth has been doing a marginally “better job”, but it is hard to quantify what are the components that lead to such better numbers.

I applied to both schools, but was not accepted after interview to CBS, but would have gone to Chicago anyway, because I believe that NYC is a city where I would not live as well as Chicago with a student budget. I am working now in NYC (as are around other 90 people from my class), and my rent is 4 times higher than in Chicago, it hurts with a decent wage, with no wage it would be a killer (I pay for an apartment with half of the size of the one I had in Chicago twice as much). NYC is indeed an AMAZING city, but Chicago is also an excellent city to live, with reasonable prices. For me the winter is hard in both (from Brazil), so it really was not a deal breaker.

Becky, I would get in touch with the Marketing departments of each school to see what they have to offer, visit schools, talk to students, and weight other personal things before making the decision, but in terms of prestige, networking reach, and access to job market, I would say that the difference is marginal and it will count more on how you conduct your job search, previous experiences, etc. In my opinion, people overweight schools on everyone’s career success (or not) and also overemphasize marginal differences between peer schools. Sorry if it was not very helpful

From the email I received after submitting:
Quote:
Submitted

- Once you submit your application online, the status will change to "Submitted." At this time, edits to your application are no longer possible. However, recommendations may be submitted until January 12.

Better get your recommender to submit today if they haven't already.

That reminds me of all the phone calls that I sent asking for an estimated time to completion for the rec for one of my recommenders.

He did. The system locks you down to the point where you cannot even add recommenders. I had them add and send an email.. It worked out..

My application's status is still Submitted. The recommendations have not been verified yet. Does anyone else still have a Submitted status?

Same here. App Status: Submitted & Recs : Not Verified.

If i remember correctly Jan 18th is the day we have to start panicking if the status remains as 'Submitted'.

Just got an email saying that my application status for R2 is now changed to "complete" from "submitted" and all interviews will be notified by Feb 16th.

FYI I submitted my application around 11est on Jan 5th.

The last step is verification of recommendations, whatever that means. I assume they just print out your recommendations separately and add them to your file. Anyway, it's dependent more on your recommenders than what time you submitted the rest of your app.

Does anyone know for sure what they do to verify the recommendations? Does this just mean they confirm the recs were submitted or do they do a check on the people you selected?
