Had a speedy response from the interview co-ordinator, so resolution is looking good.

kleinster,

The alum makes a point but if I were in your place (as I have been as a R1 applicant), I wouldn't do it. However, I have conveyed to the Ad Com that, if admitted I would certainly accept, now that I am on the WL. My view is that you should leave it be for now. I am sure you have done your best and stand a good chance at being admitted.

Agreed - I wouldn't reach out to the adcom to tell them that at this point. What you should have done, and what I tried to do, is make it obvious in your essays that Booth was your top choice. I think I actually said this towards the end of essay #1:

"As my top choice for business school, Booth is the ideal place for me to acquire the...."

What is the difference between the people accepted and enrolled? Is it the waitlists?

I'm confused. If they accept 900 guys but only enroll about 600, then you mean that there are 300 vacancies not filled? it doesn't make sense :S

Every school accepts more people than the expected/targeted class size. If the yield at Booth is about 70%, then to get a class size of 600, you would expect to accept 900 (obviously 300 will decline to attend).

What if they more people decide to matriculate than predicted. Do they increase the class size? ( say 700 of the 900 accepted candidates decide to matriculate--do they increase the class size from 600 to 700? ) I think they accept no more than their class size, in case people decide not to matriculate they admit the W/L candidates.

They will increase the class size a bit if they need to, but that's why they have the waitlist - to make sure they get the right amount of people. If 100% of people accepted their offers, no one from the waitlist would be accepted. When spots open up, they let people in off the waitlist.

We know 100 % wouldn't normally matriculate! My point was what if for a class of 600 they accepted 900 candidates out of which 700 decided to matriculate--then what will they do? Agreed W/L'ers do get invited--provided fewer than 600 would matriculate, but that is not guaranteed. I am talking about the other end of the spectrum.

I bet they have a distribution based on past trends that they use to calculate the safety margin.

I am a re-applicant.

Any re-applicants got interview invites?

I heard re-applicant process takes longer because Adcom reviews new application along with previous one.

Is this true???

I don't want to get too bogged down in this discussion, but if they only have 600 spots, they probably wouldn't accept 900 people right off the bat. They would probably accept 650 to 700 so that even if they had an unusually high yield, they wouldn't go over the limit. That's why the amount of waitlisters is so high. They accept a relatively conservative number up front and plan on using the waitlist to let in the right amount. Also keep in mind that there are 3 rounds, and they pretty much only take people in the 3rd round if they are awesome and have the spots.

I have no invite yet. My last application was horrible. If they read it, they will reject me this year too. But I improved or I thought so this application a bit.

I am re-applicant too and have no invite yet. I received an interview invite last year. Hopefully Adcom takes more time to review re-applicants' applications.

Just received an invite to interview today after submitting my app on 1/5...so it is definitely random.

Good luck to those still waiting!

I'm sure they do. The one friend I have at Booth is a first year who was waitlisted her first year and got in the 2nd time. She loves it, by the way.
