I think if you get an invite anywhere (besides schools that interview everyone) it is a sign they like you and a positive. Still, I don't think you can say R3 invites have more of a chance than R2 or R1 invites. Yes, you could say the committee only has 10 spots to fill so they only invite 25 people, so you are in the top 25 of R3 applicants, but that still means you have a 40% chance. Those odds are the same as if you applied round 2, they have 400 spots to fill and they invite 1,000 people to interview.

When you add into the fact that there is virtually no cost to the school to bring you into interview, they may be less selective in who they interview R3. They still in theory have the same number of AdCom members available to interview in R3 as they did in previous rounds. You also have to keep in mind that most schools have waitlisted candidates R1 and R2 to whom they compare R3 candidates....and in most cases there is a bias against R3 candidates if there is a similar candidate that took the initiative to apply early.

R3 is not impossible but I think it's safe to say that even with an interview it's an uphill battle.

After r1 and r2 decisions, they have a pretty god picture of their class, they know what they have and what they are lacking...

I agree that there is no cost for the adcom to interview people, however I do believe they consider the cost that is implied in an on-campus interview, specially for international students...so i dunno, I just think (maybe hope) that the adcom takes r3 invites with a "dont invite them unless they have a real chance" mindset

My guess is (and i accept that as an r3 applicant is completely biased)

Round 3 is a longshot vs r1 and r2....getting an interview in r3 is much more difficult that in r1 and r2....however applicants lucky enough to get invited to interview in r3 (they only take on-campus interviews) probably might have bigger chances than r2 and r1....

I really do wish you the best of luck and I know you want to be optimistic. However, the chances of acceptance in R3, even after an interview are just not that great. Many people who get R3 interviews often wind up on the summer wait list. Yes, some people do get in R3. I have a very good friend who was admitted to HBS in R3 a few years ago. But you might be trying to read more into an R3 interview invite than there probably is. An interview is definitely a good sign, but it's not a greater indication of something more simply because it's R3. Good luck with your interview and try not to read the tea leaves too much. You might go crazy in the process.

JMG...your optimism is a great thing. My point was just that you shouldn't try to read the tea leaves too much on what an AdCom may be thinking, since it's impossible. Getting an interview is a great start. Do the best you can do since that's all you have control over.

You can select from the electronic application where do want to be interviewed (on camplus / off campus). If you are international applicant you will be matched with an alumni from your Country considering that you have specified that you want to be interviewed in your conntry.

One question though: my interview is a saturday morning in a cafeteria. The mail states "business attire". Do I have to wear a tie as well? Or just a suit?

Business attire means a suit and a tie....unless you're a CEO of a tech company.

My friend got an interview as well yesterday. He's based on the West Coast. Consultant with focus on healthcare. 770GMAT/3.2 UC undergrad in engineering.

Has anybody come across any indication from announcements/Q&As from Booth Adcom regarding the order in which they review applications? I'm curious if they review them in random order or if they are reviewed in the order in which they were received.

It's random - i have submitted my R2 app on the dot and got an invite to interview in the first wave of the applicants. Don't try to guess what is going on at the back-end of this process.

I did my r3 interview with an alumnus of Booth on Saturday. ^I think that the interviewer has some extra time to submit the report. The interview deadline likely means the last day that your interview can be conducted.

I would wait a little while longer and maybe contact admissions at the end of this week or next. Admissions is pretty on top of it all, and if they don't get a report back from the alum in a the time frame they requested, they'll contact them anyways.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi, I am international r3. I had my interview yesterday with alumnus as well. I notified my interviewer on my my first email to him, about the deadline and yesterday he mentioned it by himself, so I believe, like MDF, that you should not worry about it. If you didn't send thank you note, send one and mention the deadline.
