Given the size of the cohort I'm not quite sure it'd be optimized in terms of process to merge R1&R2 and R3&R4 .. I'm not quite sure they actually compare R1 & R2 candidates and hold on decisions for that since once R1 applicants get through the alumni interview process the application is presented to AC for decision and it's either a yes or no? I'm not quite sure AC would spare extra time to receive application for R2 to make a final decision (but maybe they do make a WL?) and just my own 2 cents but I don't think the AC will make such an arbitrage (i.e. to adjust ad strategy based on the quality of R1 applicant pool)
In general I think R1 gathers the most prepared candidates (or those initially targeting Aug intake) and over-presented nationals (like Indians & Chinese? I'm Chinese living in France - I actually heard a lot of people saying over-presented nationals should apply R1 & R2), R2 would be for slightly less prepared who cannot make it to R1 (that would be my case .. I had my GMAT at the end of March) or who want to avoid the fierce competition of R1 (also I think in light of global recession maybe more people would want to do an MBA to reshuffle?), R3 I guess is for people who get the idea to do an MBA (or actually finally decide to do an MBA) during the H1 of the year. R4 is just in a rush ...
I am also curious about how the looming recession is affecting people’s decision on applying to business schools.
Surprisingly, many of my peers opted not to apply this year as they were reluctant to give up their current jobs, especially there’s no guarantee to get something better post mba..
