FROM Babson Admissions Blog: The Babson 2015-2016 Application for Graduate Admission is live!
Every August, we get many calls and emails from applicants eager to now when the application for admission to our graduate programs will go live. We are happy to inform you the new application is now live on the Babson Bridge.

As always, our goal is to ensure the application process allows us to really get to know you. We want to learn about your experience, accomplishments and aspirations. There are two required essays for our MBA and MSM programs and one for our MSA program.

There are no major changes to the essays this year. The essays will ask you to Define Your Future and Define You. The first essay, Define Your Future, will ask you to discuss your career goals and how you believe Babson will help you achieve these goals. Define You will give you six short answer questions and you will choose three to answer. These questions range from addressing how you have implemented an innovative idea to sharing how feedback you’ve received has been incorporated into your life.

The full essay questions can be found on the Babson Bridge. Once you’ve filled out the first two pages of the application, go to your Babson Bridge home page and on the Application Checklist, click on the essays section.

And if you are not sure what our application deadlines are, you can find them listed for all programs here.

We look forward to getting to know you!

We all have our own goals. Live yours.

FROM Babson Admissions Blog: Round 1 Deadline for Two-Year and One-Year MBA and the MS in Entrepreneurial Leadership program
November 1 is the Round 1 deadline for the Two-Year and One-Year MBA and the Master of Science in Entrepreneurial Leadership program. I know hundreds of candidates are working on their application, putting the finishing touches on essays and confirming recommenders. I have done some of the homework for you so you don’t have to spend too much time searching our web site or this blog – here are 5 important things to keep in mind as you prepare to hit “submit”:

  • Read all details about the application process and application requirements for the specific program you are applying to carefully.
  • The perennial question remains “what are official vs. unofficial test scores and transcripts” – here is the scoop on how to know what you need to do.
  • You don’t have to have your GMAT and recommendations submitted prior to or at the same time you submit your application. There is a bit of a window and you will receive communication from us about the cutoff date to have them in order to receive a decision in Round 1.
  • Here’s what to expect after you hit “submit”.
  • Don’t forget that if you haven’t visited campus and sat on an actual class, you should consider doing it – here is the schedule of graduate admissions events for you to choose from.
Bonus tip: The application process may seem daunting. Watch this amazing video of the entrepreneurial pursuits of recent MBA graduate Savitha Sridharan to remind yourself of the reasons you are consider a graduate program at Babson.

The Graduate Admissions team wishes you the best of luck and is here to support you as you move through the application steps.

FROM Babson Admissions Blog: Preparing for your MBA admissions interview
Round 1 of interviews at Babson is in full swing. The Graduate Admissions suite is full of candidates all day – excited and sometimes nervous. It’s a great time of the year!

We know very well how thrilling and anxiety-inducing receiving your MBA admissions invite can be. You made it to the interview round. Now what? Here are some suggestions regarding possible ways to prepare for your interview:

  • Know yourself. Know your motivation. Babson is such a unique place and we value diversity of all kinds. There is no one specific profile we look for in a candidate. So go back to the soul-searching you did when you were considering going to business school and revisit the reasons you would like to pursue an MBA at Babson.
  • What will you get? What will you bring? Think about the benefits of getting a holistic and rigorous MBA training. How will you benefit from it? Then reflect on the type of community Babson is. What will you bring to the table that will enrich it?
  • What is your story? How will you tell it? We know you have a great story. We know you have examples of leadership. Think hard about what they are and how to present them in a succinct yet powerful way. Practice. Practice some more. But beware of sounding rehearsed. The purpose of practice is to make the mechanics of telling the story get out of the way.
  • Honesty and integrity are paramount. Yes, I did suggest you prepare hard, think of solid examples and practice. No, this doesn’t mean embellishment of any kind is allowed. Honesty and a measure of humility are essential qualities for any entrepreneurial leader.
Good luck!

We all have our own goals. Live yours.

FROM Babson Admissions Blog: 5 Reasons to Choose Babson’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program (from a student’s perspective)
Hello! My name is Andrea and I am a current MSEL’16 candidate at Babson. I come from a non-business background and was interested in a business program that was a more hands-on, creative experience that would set me up for success in the future. I also wanted to go somewhere that valued people as well as profit, a place that believed I could help change the world. And that’s what Babson is to me.

I’m here to tell you the top 5 reasons why choosing the MSEL program may be one of the best decisions of your life thus far:

  • The MSEL program will help you gain real-world experience. My classmates and I will be spending a week in Chile next semester for a global consultant project. For a lot of us in the program, we’re coming right out of undergrad and have limited experience. You will be working on projects and have experiences that you can put on your resume, tell employers, and take with you for the rest of your career.
  • The MSEL program will value your uniqueness. Whether you’re from a business-related background or a non-business background, the MSEL program will have learning opportunities and challenges for everyone, but also a lot of opportunities to expand your skillset and knowledge. There are many opportunities, whether it’s in-class discussion or semester-long projects, for students to really grow and share their passions with classmates and professors. The diversity in education (various different majors, types of schools, and countries) allows everyone to contribute their strengths and talents while learning from others’ strengths and talents.
  • The MSEL program will expand your global perspective. I’ve had the pleasure of working in groups with people from all over the world. My learning group currently has students from Florida, Massachusetts, China, India, and the Dominican Republic. I can now tell a future employer that I’m comfortable with not just working in teams, but that I can thrive in a diverse environment.
  • The MSEL program invests in the future of entrepreneurship. Recently, my classmates and I worked with Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) at a local high school to help students with their business plans. It was definitely one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had! It reminded me that Babson is not just committed to raising up successful business people, they’re committed to investing in others so they can do the same.
  • The MSEL program is more than a cohort; it’s a support system. When I first started this program, I never expected to have the support system I have found here. The staff members here want to help you nail that interview for your dream job, will advocate for you to employers, and will give you the tools you need to achieve your goals. And as far as classmates, for a year, you’ll be working day in and out with the same group of people. You’ll laugh together, you’ll get frustrated with each other, but at the end of the day you will learn so much from one another. You’ll make connections, possibly form partnerships, and have a network for life.

FROM Babson Admissions Blog: Why an MBA and why Babson College?
In Graduate Admissions, we have conversations with prospective students around these questions every single day. Each person’s decision to return to school for their MBA is personal and unique. And so is what they hope to gain from their graduate business school experience. Some students want to stay in their path, but advance from their current role, while others want to change careers entirely. Others want to gain the knowledge necessary to start their own venture and leave corporate life behind.

At Babson, we provide the knowledge, support, and resources for all students to pursue their goals through Entrepreneurial Thought and Action®. Here are just a few reasons why Babson is the right place for you, no matter what your goals are.

  • Our strength in Entrepreneurship: Even if you don’t want to start your own business, at Babson you’ll gain an entrepreneurial mindset. This means being able to take action and solve problems, identify opportunities where others may not, and manage ambiguity and uncertainty – all skills that employers are actively seeking in new hires today.
  • Top-notch faculty practitioners: Our faculty are not only up-to-date on the latest research and trends in their field, but most have extensive industry experience. Their examples aren’t from text books, they’re from their own business experiences.
  • Dedicated Career Advisors: Babson’s career advisors focus on an industry and provide both advising to students and engagement with companies in their assigned vertical – a unique model that ensures they have the insight into your desired professional field.
  • Resources to explore your interests: Babson’s Academic Centers like the Lewis Institute, Blank Center for Entrepreneurship, or Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership offer many opportunities to pursue your passions outside the classroom. Or you can join a student organization, help plan one of the student led forums, or do an internship. The possibilities are endless.

FROM Babson Admissions Blog: Celebrating Diversity in the Babson Community: Meet Babson Black MBA

Racial equality in higher education has been making headlines over the past few weeks; it’s no secret that diversity in education, specifically on the graduate level, can sometimes be hard to come by. Hearing the words “Black MBA” can be a little daunting to those who aren’t…well…Black. But the Babson Black MBA (BBMBA) club on campus is not here to create exclusivity or avoid diversity here at Babson; in fact, it’s here to do the opposite.

“Membership in the BBMBA is open to everyone and will provide students with opportunities to network with colleagues, faculty, alumni, entrepreneurs and business leaders for professional development and employment opportunities industry wide,” said the club’s representatives.

The BBMBA leadership team itself is quite diverse…

Frederick Horlali Tsa, the president of BBMBA, is originally from Ghana; Flora Ekpe-Idang, the VP of Events and Outreach, is from New Jersey; Mark Gagliard, VP of Finance, is from Lynnfield, Massachusetts; and Jennifer Pierre, VP of Marketing, and Andrea Reeves, VP of Alumni Connections, are both from Florida. The team represents different backgrounds, ethnicities, and passions — but what unites them is a passion for equality, acceptance, and opportunity to excel for all people, especially those who have been previously suppressed by society. BBMBA strives to create a community that values diversity and accepts the responsibility to empower minority students, whether they are a part of Babson’s community now or simply interested in joining the Babson family.

In a series of posts to follow, each BBMBA member will be sharing a little bit about his or her background, as well as a topic surrounding diversity that’s close to their heart…If the topic of diversity at Babson interests you, or you are a prospective student curious as to how you’ll fit in here at Babson, don’t hesitate to contact any of the members of the BBMBA team!

Keep up with Babson Black MBA on their Facebook page.

FROM Babson Admissions Blog: An important day for Round 1 applicants! (And a shout out for the Round 2 deadline)
This is a big week for all Round 1 applicants – we will be releasing admissions decisions at midnight tomorrow (Eastern Standard Time), Thursday, December 17! The Round 1 pool of candidates was exceptionally qualified this year and the admissions committee spent a remarkable number of hours discussing each applicant and his or her fit for Babson.

So here is what happens next:

  • You will receive an email to check your Babson Bridge where your decision letter will be posted. You will also be able to see what merit scholarship you may have received.
  • All admitted candidates will be invited to join us for a special Welcome Day in January. We hope you will be able to join us.
  • If you find that you have been wait listed, don’t panic and follow the instructions and suggestions for waitlisted candidates on the Bridge – we will continue to work with you.
  • Finally, if you did not receive a positive outcome, we will be happy to connect with you and offer some feedback – but please note that we will not be able to do this until August.
For all other applicants – a couple of important reminders:

  • Babson College will be closed for the holidays starting Thursday, December 24. We will return on Monday, January 4.
  • The Graduate Admissions team will be checking the [email protected] email account periodically over break so if you are working on your application and need technical support – email us.
  • The Round 2 deadline for the Two-Year MBA, One-Year MBA and MSEL is January 4. Here is a reminder of “What you need to know before the deadline”.
On behalf of the entire Graduate Admissions team, I wish you happy holidays and a wonderful start of the New Year!

We all have our own goals. Live yours.
