Hi Kryzak,

D you know any current student who is doing the Healthcare certificate course?

I have a question on whether the healthcare certificate course helps prepre for a career in the healthcare industry or whether the dual-degree MBA/MPH prepares them better.

Thanks

Kryzak, one more question on the essay -

Supplemental Questions:
4. Please explain all gaps in your employment since earning your university degree.

Should this be after the grad (latest) degree or after under-grad degree too?

Thanks

I would probably start after your undergrad degree.

Will check the healthcare certificate question for you.

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked already, but does anybody have a good sense how difficult it is to get into Haas rd. 3 as opposed to rd. 2? Since Haas has four admissions rounds it's sort of hard to compare to the other programs where a round 3 app is basically pointless. They've got sort of a weird schedule. There's no way I can get an app in by 12/10, since Haas has so many essays that are different from the other schools. I'd like to apply, but if there's only a small chance of getting in rd. 3 then maybe not...

Thanks!

Hi, I talked to a current student about this and she said the MBA/MPH does a better job but at the expense of electives outside of the industry.

I think it really depends what aspect of healthcare you want to go into. The more macro the scope you want to take, the more the MPH comes into play.

What are you thinking about going into?

Not 100% sure, but I don't think there's a big difference in acceptance rates between Rounds 2 and 3 and it's not the same as the last round at other schools. Admissions can probably provide better info and maybe even actual historical stats. I know several people here who were admitted in Round 3. My opinion is that if you can put forward a stronger application given the extra time, go with that route.

For the MPH/MBA vs Certificate issue, one of the Haas Student Ambassadors said for you to email the question to "[email protected]", and she'll be able to explain it in more detail.

R2 vs R3: not that big of a difference, since Haas as 4 rounds. If you can't put in a good app for R2, then it's ok to submit a better app in R3.

I am in Healthcare technology. Would like to continue in a general managemen role and long term would like to start my own health services firm in India.

Sure, I'll do that.

Is it the same app for the dual-degree course too?

I believe you need to apply to the public health school, but the HSA will be able to help you with that.

finally nearly a month after i submitted my application, it has gone under review.

kryzak, any idea as to when we might we hearing about the interview calls? Does Haas follow a rolling call, or a specific date when they send nearly all the interview mails?

interview invites are done by email on a rolling basis. It should start from beginning of December all the way to a few days before Super Saturday, which should be around January 16th 2010?

Great, this is def helpful. Work is just too crazy to try to push out six decent essays for Haas over the next month... hopefully I'll have a solid window over the holidays to work on them. Thanks guys!

Count me in for R2!

I visited Haas in late October. For me the best part was the opportunity to meet a lot of students. Everyone seemed smart, nice, and genuinely interested in providing info on the school. I felt like they were giving an honest assessment of the school, etc., not just the party line.

Not that it necessarily means much, but the other applicants were also really friendly and people I could imagine having a beer with... at other visits I have not felt that way!

The downside for me was through the day I heard several students say that a drastic career change 'wouldn't make sense' to the admissions committee (and in general). As a career-changer that wasn't very encouraging to me, but I'll just put it all in the essays and leave it to the adcom.

Good luck everyone!
