I feel your pain...

In my opinion, recommendation letters are the worst part of the application process. It sucks asking someone do perform such a time-intensive activity for you, only to have them jump through a new set of hoops for each additional school you apply to.

On top of it, you're basically announcing your resignation at the same time. It's even worse when you come from a corporate culture where people leaving for MBA's is not very common.

Anyone else hating Berkeley's copy and past essay format? It keeps putting random spaces in my essays and making some paragraphs with font twice as large as others. This is so frustrating. I've had no problems with other schools so far. Maybe its just me?

They easily have the worst application of any school that I have applied to. The formatting issues are completely unnecessary.

What kind of background do the typical Haas admits/current students have? I mean besides a high gpa/gmat, are they all silicon valley/techy types?

I worked for mid sized private real estate developer in los angeles doing construction management/operations, have a masters in urban planning, and hope to get into social enterprise post MBA. While Berkeley has a reputation for being progressive and receptive to social enterprise, I just have this really bad feeling about sending out an app. I just cant shake this feeling that they are more of a silicon valley/entrepreneurship/tech school. I'm applying through the consortium, so I need to make school choices carefully :o

The class at Haas is pretty diverse. Your background alone will not preclude you from consideration :) Given your interest in non-profit, Haas should definitely be a school of interest for you (same with Yale SOM).

Anyone else having problem inputting the number of times you have taken the GMAT on the online app? This message keeps showing up for me: "The number of times you have taken the GMAT is required for submission of the application. Please return to the Test Scores section, GMAT Questions form to answer." However, when I go to the Test Scores section, there is no place for me to input this information. What should I do?

As there are 4 rounds at Haas, is R2 Vs R3 similar to R1 Vs R2 of other schools? Or there is big disadvantage of applying for Haas in R3?

Does anyone know or have an idea on how strict Haas is about its word limits on essays?

I mean, is it OK to go over by 5-10%?

Thanks

p.s. sorry if this has been answered elsewhere

Nobody can say for sure even if it has been discussed before. I've exceeded by upto 3-4%. It really depends on the school. My impression from the haas application is that they like lot of details and information. So, they probably wont mind the extra words that exceed the limit. A Haas alumni mentioned that he exceeded the limit by 5%, I think. So we have some data to say it would be ok. I'd recommend not to exceed by as high as 10%
I am an applicant like you, so take it with a pinch of salt :)

Any opinion on the "Other schools" section in the Haas application, where they ask about what other schools I am applying to?
Do you see any adv or disadv in filling that out with all my schools? I know its optional, so thinking of leaving it blank at the moment. Just wondering if it has any bearing on scholarship offers etc...Thanks.

I was interviewed for R2 and waitlisted until R4 last year. I've reapplied R1 this year. Will Haas request another interview this year or it will make decisions based on prior year's interview feedback? Thanks!
