I'm doing a campus visit on Nov 9th. For those that have previously visited, any suggestions on hotels, commute to campus, etc? I saw another post suggesting a hotel close to the airport and taking the BART so probably will end up doing that. Or may just end up getting a rental.
I don't have any hotel recommendations, but you should definitely take BART. Although the Downtown Berkeley stop is on the opposite side of campus relative to Haas, it's a scenic walk that doesn't take too terribly long (10 minutes?).

I just returned from a visit on Wednesday.. I had an awesome time.
I stayed in downtown Berkeley for $124/night at the Hotel Shattuck.. 5 min walk from UC-Berkeley.
The BART ride from the SFO airport is more like 30-40minutes. I think Oakland is closer.
I highly recommend spending a day at Stanford as well!

I visited last May and stayed in downtown SF. The BART ride in the morning was extremely easy and we were able to an unbelievable deal on a really nice hotel on Priceline ($70 for 5 stars!). I agree with Avernusaur that the campus walk is scenic and beautiful and lets you get a good feel for campus. All the student reports say that parking is a pain so you may be better off w/o a car.
OMG - The Haas Admissions staff is like the calmest, most soothing group of people I've ever talked to on the phone!
I called with a financial aid question - the woman I talked to made a point to say: "are you sure you don't have any more admissions questions?" "Do you want to know when interviews start?"
I'm so relaxed now...
Clearly I wasn't the craziest person she's talked to this week. LOL!
... And when do interviews start, according to her? Share!

Ha Ha! Sorry - I left out the most important part!
She said expect invites to start mid to late November. And like Stanford, invitations will continue to be issued right up until a week before the deadline.
Kind of like the Comcast guy telling you he'll be there between 2 and 6. But at least it's something.

Thanks for sharing! That should let everyone relax for a few more weeks.

Alright, I'm sold on not getting a car.
Yep, I've got my Stanford class visit booked for the day before Berkeley.

The trip is Stanford is time consuming.. (took me about 1.5hours from Downtown Berkeley). I took the BART to Union City, then the DB Express (bus) to Palo Alto. Luckily the DB Express has WiFi on board
I think you can take the Caltrain from Millbrae. This might be quicker but I'm not sure.

even though i submitted my app for r1, i'm thinking about heading out west for some vacation time - and to see stanford (r2). i'd love to see haas, but is that jumping the gun? should i just wait to see about interviews (or just never hear from them...), OR does visiting after applying demonstrate interest? what do you guys think?

You can also stay in SF and then BART to Berkeley and CalTrain to Stanford. Stanford is much harder to get to without a car, but it's doable. And yes, it does take about 1.5-2 hours.
Hotel Shattuck and Hotel Durant are all ok places to stay. Parking is expensive in Berkeley so BART-ing in or staying nearby is better. There is a perimeter bus and a reverse perimeter bus that starts near the BART station by the Bank of America. Comes every 7-15 minutes and costs $1. Will take you to the top of the hill. Then you can leisurely walk down from Haas back to BART and still see the whole campus.
As there are 4 rounds at Haas, is R2 Vs R3 similar to R1 Vs R2 of other schools? Or there is big disadvantage of applying for Haas in R3?
Looks like this went un-noticed.
Could anyone please comment on this question?

Yes, R1 and R2 are pretty much the same at Haas and similar to R1 at other schools. R3 at Haas is like R2. R4 is not recommended like R3's of other schools.
