I interviewed with a 2nd year on campus on Feb 11th. Pretty straight forward interview, Why MBA + Booth. Biggest challenge/success in my career. Some specific questions on Investment Management as I want to transition into that and my interviewer was moving to an IM role post MBA.

Are all decisions for Round 2 made on Mar 26th? Or do they notify candidates on a rolling basis? Good luck everyone!

It's my understanding that all decisions are released on March 26.

FROM The Booth Experience: True, False or Depends: Diversity of Thought at the University of Chicago
Over the past year, we’ve talked about the best parts of getting an MBA – from LEAD to getting a great new job, plus all of the great social events. One of the less fun parts of an MBA are (unsurprisingly) midterms and final exams. Interestingly, however, our exams help demonstrate the diversity of thought … Continue reading True, False or Depends: Diversity of Thought at the University of Chicago →

I had my off-campus interview recently.
Very orthodox, no curve balls...WMTYR, why MBA, why Chicago Booth, accomplishment, failure, what contribution can you make, any questions?...
The interviewer didn't react much to anything I said so I'm not sure about how I did, so the long wait begins.

By the way, I heard that school will consider my overall application including my interview and decide if I will be admitted/wait-listed/dinged.
So how would this be done? They will look at my essay, recommendations, etc. again to finally decide their decision? Is it possible that I could be dinged although my interview went well?

Correct. Final decisions are not just based on interviews of invited students. Some folks bomb and get in; some ace and get cut. Just be yourself and stay factual, humble and engaging.

FROM The Booth Experience: Excel Monkey Gets Over Feeling Like the Second Banana
Because Everyone Feels Like a Baboon Sometimes: On Failure, Resilience and Gratitude   A few weeks ago, I read a great article about mental health during the MBA, and how emotional and psychological struggles are frequently left unvoiced or untreated. Deeply imbedded is the idea of failure, particularly as it relates to employment (ah, the … Continue reading Excel Monkey Gets Over Feeling Like the Second Banana →

Just had my interview today.
My interviewer was former president of the alumni club in Brazil and graduated from Booth a long time ago (2003). It was very informal and conversational, a few mandatory questions from Admissions such as "tell me a situation in which you showed resilience", apart from that I passed most of the interview talking about my experiences and reasons I wanted to do an MBA, why Booth and what I wanted for the future. we started the interview in english and passed it to portuguese after a few minutes.
Was without a doubt my best interview so far (Ross and Kellogg being the others).
Feeling confident about Booth... let's wait for the decisions in late March.

Everyone who got in received a phone call the day before the published notification date. On notification date everyone's notification status changed, including dings and waitlists.

Oh yea? That's awesome...one less day of waiting is still less waiting!

EDIT: Is this how it is in general for other schools that have a single release date - the published date is when all statuses change but admit calls go out a day early?

Whether you’re a prospective student just beginning your journey, or an admit giddy with an acceptance letter, the question of financing is probably at the forefront of your mind. Is anyone interviewing this Friday (3/6) on-campus?

Also, are there any current Booth students here that wouldn't mind a prospective student tagging along to the TNDC??

FROM The Booth Experience: Business School – A Family Affair: Hyde Park Living Pt. II
This is the second installment of a multi-part series about living in Hyde Park. Beyond having a great neighborhood feel and extremely affordable housing, Hyde Park offers a lot in the way of amenities.  While it admittedly doesn’t have an incredible night life—you’ll likely have to take a bus/train/car downtown for that—it does offer a … Continue reading Business School – A Family Affair: Hyde Park Living Pt. FROM The Booth Experience: Prospective Student FAQ, Part II: Careers
I’m on a mission to answer the most frequently asked questions that prospective students have about Booth! In my last post, I addressed questions related to Chicago living. In this post, I will tackle an area of great importance to most future MBAs: getting a job. How do students interact with career services? Career services … Continue reading Prospective Student FAQ, Part II: Careers →

FROM Booth Admissions Blog: Teaming Up with the Booth Experience

Back in November, Kurt introduced us to the newly redesigned student blog, The Booth Experience. Since then, I have had the pleasure of working closely with The Booth Experience Team – the voices and minds behind what has become a resource not only for those of you interested in a Chicago Booth MBA, but truly anyone considering an MBA experience.

Working with The Booth Experience student contributors helps those of us on the Admissions team to understand the day-to-day of our students, their paths to Booth, and how they navigate life in general here. These student stories better enable us to answer questions for prospective students and give them a snapshot of Booth life. The blog itself is largely a reflection of what the team feels you should consider and know about this institution, and the students. They meet each week to plan how they can tell readers about not only what is happening at Booth now, but how they can help you understand more about the classes in which they are challenged, what student groups are up to throughout the year, how they are contributing in leadership roles, how they manage their finances, and what fun things there are to do around the city of Chicago. This usually ends in debates like whether Big Star or Taco Joint wins out as the premier taco place in the city.

Although they come from different backgrounds, have separate goals, varied priorities and will be going to very different places after they leave Booth, The Booth Experience Team share experiences rooted in Booth values, integrating diverse perspectives, community, risk-taking, and support in everything that they do as a team.

In my first blog for The Booth Insider, I said that the stories the people here tell make Booth what it is. Almost a year later, I modify that statement: At Booth, the people that come together in this community make the place.

If you haven’t already, I urge you to follow their stories for what can only be heard right from our students.

All the best,

Kylie
