Was just invited for a second interview with an admissions officer ON CAMPUS. Good? Bad? Neither?

Definitely not bad. Certainly intriguing.

At a minimum you know a decision is close... I think everyone who has had an interview with the adcom has received a decision very soon after (and mostly positive!).

Hi Guys,

I applied for the J-Term on 08/16 and still haven’t heard anything. Someone in the same situation???? This situation is hard as hell !!!!!!! You begin to think about 1000 things that you could have done better and assume that you may not even get interviewed because of them.
Someone who applied before me heard anything???????

Greetings all, thanks for a very enlightening thread, helps ease the waiting pain.

Can any of the accepted candidates shed some light on the Columbia facebook group?
I wanted to get an idea of how many have been accepted so far so I checked the Columbia MBA 2012 group
on FB. It has 619 members.....seeing as the ED and J-term deadline hasn't even passed yet, I find this highly unlikely. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to how/why this may be?

(J-term,30,3.1,720,8yrs,Engineering,IB,IB(Energy),08/30/10, for the spreadsheet)

Probably because that's the class of 2012, not 2013.

Not sure how many other candidates were admitted, but I know so far that there are 4-5 admitted from the spreadsheet.

Don't know how helpful searching on fbook will be besides spinning your wheels.

Good to see some J-termers. I applied 9/5
GMAT: 720, 5 years work exp in HFs, 3.1

Havent heard any movement from anyone recently. You would figure they would be getting closer to some decisions sooner rather than later as we are already close to Q4

I know it's mostly J-term and ED applicants reading this forum right now, but I figured I would post what happens when you submit a RD app. I submitted on 9/12 and my app went under review on 9/15. Today it changed to: "Your Regular Decision application will be placed under review in December 2010."

I just submitted my regular decision app yesterday, 9/21 and it was changed pretty immediately to "Your application is now being printed and prepared for review."

I had my interview a week ago today. My biggest pieces of advice:

1. know genuinely why you want an MBA, why now, and why CBS would be perfect for you. Don't rehearse a scripted response.

2. secondly, do a ton of research and besides asking the usual "how was your CBS experience" question, ask something unique. I asked about starting a new master class for instance and what my interviewer's (she was adcom) favorite follies skit was.

Thanks, SaMoCu - I often hear that the interviewers go through the standard questions as a formality and that much of the time is spent on general conversation. Is this the case? Kind of makes me wonder if the interviews report more from their impression of the candidate than the details of the candidate's experience...

I'm sure the interviewers have a list of standard questions that they may ask you. At the same time, it doesn't prevent them from asking anything outside the box. Since my interview wasn't with an alum, I'd have to defer to others whose interviews were.

Whenever there's room for a conversation piece, take advantage of it.

That was my status for a few hours before it went to "Your application is under review."

Can anyone who has had a "second" interview with the admissions office please PM me? I have one tomorrow and would appreciate any insight into how I should prepare.
