Convinced myself that if I don't get a response by the end of this week (before Oct 1st), my application is going to be either wait-listed/denied admission. :|

This theory is based on the responses in this topic so far... more or less..

I am affected by this - my language of instruction in undergrad was English but my institution is in India, where official language is not English -

Is there anyone else in the same boat ?

Well...English is the official language of India (along with Hindi). Check it out https://www.rajbhasha.gov.in/preseng.htm

I think if you study in the US (Undergrad/Grad), then you don't have to give TOEFL. In my case, I did my Masters here and so far, no one asked me for my TOEFL score.

correct..In India, we take for granted that both Hindi and English are official languages, but there is a small difference which many applicants (like Gaurav and myself) may overlook on first instance. The caveat in the text on the CBS website is that english needs to be the 'primary official language' whereas in India it is (now) the secondary official language.

from the CBS FAQs section - You may be exempted from the TOEFL if you have earned a degree from an institution based in a country in which English is the primary official language and at which the official language of instruction is English.

from the link you posted - English should be the principal official language and Hindi the subsidiary Official Language till 1965. After 1965, when Hindi becomes the principal official language of the Union, English should continue as the subsidiary official language.

Karth - If you go back a few pages on the thread, I submitted my interview questions on a post. It tends to be casual and nothing should come as a surprise. Check out Clearadmit interview reports as well.

Question about GPA.

How have the Indian applicants converted their percentages into a GPA on a 4 scale ?

I have 55% from Pune University. Topper had about 72%.

But based on the scale given on the CBS website, my score translates to a GPA of 0. Yikes !

What have the others done ? Thanks.

I would break 72% into 4 quartiles, 0-18, 19-36, 37-54, and 55-72. By this logic you fall in the bottom part of the top quartile, somewhere between a 3.3 and a 3.7. This is just a suggestion, you will need to substantiate the claim that 72% was indeed the highest grade. You could get a letter/e-mail from the Registrar of the College. Pune University is a decently large institution, I'm sure they have records that can be helpful. Also, use your optional essay to better explain this.

Hope this helps.

Regarding the question on GPA:

I have not done this as my University awards grades and GPA, however, I have heard from other candidates that there are certain organizations (not sure about their names) which charge you small amounts to convert your percentage to GPA as awarded by the US universities. When I participated in some information sessions, people had questions regarding whether these conversions are accepted and most of the B Schools actually do.

Let me know in case you are interested in such a service and I will ask the other candidates who have previously used such a service about the name of the organization/s.

Waiting for the update in my application status is killing me now - resulting in over-analysis of the spreadsheet as usual! So here is a request - can we add a column on nationality in the spreadsheet.

Also, how many Asians in this thread? and their status? My initial guess is that the ED applications from US have been processed first. Can someone confirm/ deny this?

False. Hazay, somewhere in Europe, got interviewed well before anyone in the US did.
