I just thought of something to ask you interviewed people...did you email a copy of your resume beforehand or did you just upload the resume into the system where you picked the alums? because i did the upload I thought the intervieer would be able to access it there. not sure if that's true as my alum didn't have a copy infront of him and i am wondering if that was a bit of a faux pas on my part...(i did bring a copy)

The system tells you to both upload and email a copy. Not sure why alumni can't get from system.

Doh :(

i got a status update email and when I checked my appln, I have a letter which says "based on the strength of your professional background, stated career goals, and personal profile, the Committee thinks you might be a better fit for our January program."

What does this mean? anyone else got this?

Testprep - when did you submit your application?

I guess they think you might be better off doing the accelerated MBA program. Weird though. Does it mean they are not considering you for regular?

Interesting. Did you apply ED or RD? Also, are they denying or waitlisting you for the regular full-time program?

It seems like columbia and booth have this weird practice of recommending strong applicants to other programs, whether it's booth part-time or columbia EMBA or january admissions.

yes - i got a denied admission on full-time.

I am a full-time RD applicant but in the letter, they hav asked me to "look into" the jan program saying it might be a better fit. They said -- "sorry to deny admission for this prog but we hope to hear from u for the Jan prog"

Sorry to hear that testprep.

Can you let us know your profile, which I believe must be too strong? What was your short term goal?

I think someone asked my submit date a while back -- sorry for late response.

Submitted mid November, got interview invite early December, interviewed between Xmas and New Years (VERY casual -- I wore jeans, as did my interviewer -- I know this is against all the "rules" you've probably read in books, but sometimes you have to know what the occasion is... and in this case it was very appropriate), and my app went Complete today.

So hopefully I will hear some good news soon.

Im not active on these boards at all... but based on all the stress/anxiety I see I hope that everyone takes a step back from the process and is able to think about all that they've gained -- better perspective on career goals, a more polished resume, and a bit more motivation to do something with themselves (even if it's just landing a big gig somewhere).

In any event, chill out, stop speculating, submit/interview/etc. and let the adcom do the rest -- it's out of our control.

Cheers!

They do often respond - don't read into it, though. Just has to do with their individual personalities and the specific mood/busyness at the time they got the email on their Blackberry or Outlook.

The interview is one more data point. Alumni interviews can be quite hit or miss and most importantly they're looking to see that 1. you are who you say you are ("the candidate is clearly a numbers person, speaks in three-word sentences" and you wrote flowing prose in your application) and 2. you can behave yourself for 30-90 min around a businessperson (which can come out in many ways, from an outright "the candidate picks their nose, slurps their coffee and burps before farting and making references to my mother" to "nothing wrong but perhaps not a great fit; may be better off in a smaller program in a campus setting, not a city person" etc).

Columbia stands out amongst other schools for following up if they have specific questions about you.

Yep my interviewer responded to my thank you email too, and actually made the process a lot less anxious -- he was my only interviewer (out of 4 schools) to mention at the end of the conversation that he thought the interview went well and that he would be recommending me as a good fit for CBS.

Congrats!

I think he must have submitted the day of or very next day. He actually thougth I was RD, so when I told him that I was ED maybe he felt the need to push it along more quickly (he was ED as well).
