why don't you contact a student?
They have some students available to talk on the website.
You can contact one of them and tell in your application that your are in contact with one of the students to get information, because you don't live in NYC.

Hi,
Is not attending a Columbia event a disadvantage? The app form specifically asks for this question and I had written no. Could you please suggest any way I could cover this up now after submitting if it could hamper my app

I don't think it would hamper your app unless you live < 2h away (that would be lack of interest).

Thanks guys. I had mailed their student ambassadors couple of days back but havent heard yet! and I thought I was already getting late for submitting the app so applied today. I live in UK but not in London so couldnt attend one. Just thinking if I hear back from a student would it be worth sending a mail to adcom regarding that?

I don't think so...
You live in UK! Totally understandable that you couldn't attend a class!

Any word on the interview front? Columbia is remarkably slow this year, or at least that's the impression I get from the forums.

Columbia's process is still not clear for me.

If they say that applications are reviewed in order that they are received. How some people that sent the application after others get interview invitation before?
Wouldn't be normal for the ones that didn't get the interview be denied?

I applied 12/21/2010, and didn't hear anything. It is still under review...

Would they send me an email telling that my application was reject if that is the case, at the same time that they would send me interview invites?

Also, I am in California... How do they schedule the interviews out of campus?

thanks my forum friends!
it is very helpful to have all of you to talk about this stressing process!

I get the impression that they give you a firm no after a certain period of time - I'm not sure when exactly, maybe somewhere around 6-10 weeks?

That being said, the timeline is different for individual applicants because you can be invited to interview at a number of steps throughout the process.

For those of us who went under review on the week of 1/3, if we don't get an invite this week, then it's a ding.

I am sorry... but how did you get to this conclusion?
Did you talk with someone at the office?

Uh no. It's a ding until you get the ding email (where your likelihood of getting an interview decreases over time). So until then, you never know.
