Interesting theory - probably correct. but it's strange that their haven't been any invites to people that submitted in the 1/1 to 1/14 range - seems like there should be some interviews taking place shortly, at least with the "strong applicants"...

Did some calculations on the ED round this year:

Average time from Application Submission to Interview Invite: 30 days
Shortest time: 4 days
Longest time: 72 days

It seems like the shorter the turnaround times is with regards to your invite, the stronger your application. If several people have to read it before inviting you, it probably means your application is solid but not amazing. I wonder if those who get invites quickly have a higher acceptance rate.

i would agree with this assumption..... i found out literally the day that the adcom returned from winter break (1/4/2010) and had submitted the day before the break started. so unless they were secretly in the office when they werent supposed to be , would say i had a pretty quick turnaround !

Hey, Rock Rock, how did you schedule your interview please. I cannot seem to get past the first three ambassadors, and i believe I can reach out to 9 of them? Did you contact more than 3 people before receiving a response?

just received a ding email... went complete on 12/23... I was kind of expecting this thogh. good luck to everyone!

Why were you expecting it? Did the interview not go well, or were you dinged without interview?

Dinged w/out interview. I just thought my app was not as strong as other apps, and my entrepreneurial background in operations management and my semi-competitive GPA didn't seem to be a good fit. Looking back, I think it was not a great decision to apply. I did apply to a LOT of schools though, hopefully it doesn't backfire. Right now I'm 2 for 3 (interview invites for Booth and Darden - ding at CBS). I am waiting to hear back from lots of schools, all for Round 2. I have a very peculiar story and I wasn't able to tell it for the application at Columbia. My Booth app was much stronger. In addition, I know a number of Mexicans that have applied for CBS and got dinged, with admissions to Wharton, HBS, Booth... They're particularly harsh on us I guess. Anyway, it's a fantastic school. It still sucks that I got dinged haha. Hopefully the second one doesn't suck so much.

Reimon,
do not be too hard on yourself...I doubt CBS has anything against Mexicans! You should be free to express yourself like you did with your other applications, and I am sure that you will be accepted to the best school for you. Prep for your other interviews, and get your admit. Best Wishes.

Exactly the same timeline here. And I've been trying not to let it get to me, but today it is starting to.

Ok, who cares if you get an interview invite earlier in the process? Seriously...what matters if that you get one, period. I've said this before, but I didn't get an interview invite until SEVEN weeks in. But after the interview, I got the call a short week later. The timing really doesn't matter and it really doesn't say anything about how strong your application is. It comes down to luck. Maybe your story really resonates with one reader but not the other. But the reader who likes your story doesn't read your application until later, thus why you receive an invite later in the process....Again, timing doesn't matter and it is NO indicator of the strength of your application. Luck plays a role. But if you have a strong application, be confident that you will receive an invite at some point.

Best of luck to you guys.

Submitted 12/18
Complete on 12/21
Ding on 1/28.

On track for zero admits this season, hopefully I can convert the Booth interview into an offer.

Sorry to hear that. When did you go complete at booth? When did you get your invite?

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me if CBS requires summer prep courses to be taken for admits who never studied business? And if so, when do these courses start? I am asking this question for different schools...

Also, I'm wondering what would be the last date possible for R2 interviews??

Thanks

Hey, Rock Rock, how did you schedule your interview please. I cannot seem to get past the first three ambassadors, and i believe I can reach out to 9 of them? Did you contact more than 3 people before receiving a response?

Just search again for the area that you are interviewing in. The new interviewer options will show up in your list and the old ones will stay there.

Thanks a lot BDubs, I eventually figured it out. Is it okay to tell an alum that you really want to interview with them ( they will know I may have google them though  what do you think? I am waiting to hear back from someone.

I have contacted two CBS ambassadors for an interview and I have not heard back from both. It's been almost 4 days since I reached out to the first interviewer and over 24hours has elapsed since I contacted the second. Is this common? Should I go through the list of 9 suggested interviewers until someone responds to me?

Do they let you pick your alumni interviewer or do they give you a select few to choose from? For example, I know a few alumnis and it would be benificial to interview with them. Is it unethical, or do they ask you not interview with people you know, or know through mutual friends? Not sure if they care or not.

@smileyface - though Admissions suggested waiting 3 days before emailing a new ambassador, after getting a delayed response, I just went ahead and e-mailed everyone at once. It turned out that I only got 1 response. But worse comes to worse, if multiple people offer to interview you, you can respectfully decline some of the ambassadors.

@pacifictoatlantic - admissions provides you with a database to search which provides you with the information of 9 ambassadors (the max amount of people you can contact to interview.) if you are so lucky that the search returns one of your friends, well... Let's just say that if we both end up going to CBS, I'd like to make sure we hang out! :D but anyway, my point is that the interview ambassador selection is fairly random.
