I'm coming up on 8 weeks since I went "under review", and there's no update...(im)patiently awaiting an update.

Ughhhh....

If the purpose of ED is to lock in good applicants early (so that they don't even prepare any apps for the other top schools), Columbia's decision timing doesn't seem to be working out here...they've delayed things to the point where everyone needs to work on other apps now, since Oct (R1 for most schools) is not that far away...

Yeah. I wonder how many people will actually 'withdraw' after they pay the application fees for other schools + $ spent for essays, etc. I would guess that most acceptances will come after other schools' deadlines, meaning 2nd week of October mostly.

You can search 3 times, so basically you can choose among 9 interviewers. I picked 2 and got one respond in one hour and the other never bothered to respond.

ah, cool, thanks for clearing that up. hang in there with the waiting. fingers crossed you and hazay will be the first ED admits on this thread!

From looking through the 2010 applicant post, it seemed like those who submitted in August (at what was then the beginning of the review period) were getting much quicker turnarounds. I'm wondering if those who applied super-early are getting longer wait times simply because there are probably so few submissions so far and perhaps CBS is waiting for the pool to get deeper before they decide to make too many moves. Just a theory.
I agree and I knew it could happen by submitting early june.

But I thought:

So we ll see... I believe that my 3 weeks turnaround to receive an itw invite end of June will put me in the first ED batch to receive a final decision, even if I have to wait for the first ED batch to be complete

Best of luck in getting an early response, hazay!

The purpose of rolling admissions is for applicants to know where they sit on the queue and get decisions as they go. Now that there is no longer an actual official timeline for applicants, rolling admissions has become much messier.

CBS will give a decision within the 8-12 weeks window to 99% of the applicants, otherwise it will hurt them next year and they re aware of that. The applicants who submitted during the early weeks might have to wait an extra 2-3 weeks but it s perfectly normal.

More generally, most of us will write in our applications how much responsibilities/impact/leadership we had in our jobs.... But on GC, we act like if we were 15 years old high school students freaking out before a geography exam. We need to keep our cool, deal with the ~4-5-6 applications we re going to send in the most professional way, visit some schools if we can, and remember that we have the upper hand in this game.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere on this thread or maybe a spreadsheet (like on other threads) that tracks the # of ED applicants to CBS Sep 2011 and their status?

it's interesting to note that bakfed heard back in only 5 weeks. I wonder whether they are just keeping the ones who are likely admits in the pile for a while before making a final decision.

I wouldnt use these words :-D , but we have to wait for the first pile of "post interviewed applicants" to be complete to hear from CBS.

so here at GC, we have 4 ED'ers who have either interviewed or gotten an invite. Let's multiply this by 10, so there should be 40 ED people in or through the interview process.

Admittedly, I had a pretty crappy application. Several more days have gone by and I've been putting a lot of time on my other applications. In comparison, my CBS application was ****. The essays were boring and dull; the extracurriculars were insanely 'pointless' (as in I don't even know why I put them on there). Granted the CBS application does have a lot more restrictions, such as number of words, on its application (and only 2 essays? Almost makes me feel that CBS cares more about numbers than the person him/herself). On top of crappy writings on the application, my numbers were, if any, close to the bottom portion of the 80% range (which means I fall into the 10 percentiles, not really that impressive). So adding together everything, CBS probably knew that I'm not going to be able to compete (at least on paper) with other applicants; therefore, dinged me after 5 weeks. Take-home message? I really do believe they start reviewing as soon as they get it as it only took my application to get to "under review" in 1 day. Then CBS will either send you an invite very soon for an interview if your application is outstanding or hold on to your application until there are more applicants (sort of like a waitlist). Then of course, for gentlemen and ladies who are like me, they couldn't wait a little longer to deny me.

Please tell us about yourself and your personal interests. The goal of this essay is to get a sense of who you are, rather than what you have achieved professionally. (Recommended 500 word limit)

It s clearly not about numbers.

bakfed,
unfortunately i think i am in same boat as you at least in numbers. My gmat is slightly higher but my gpa is 2.92 although I do have a grad degree but who knows how that comes into play. You got dinged in 5 and i am on my 4th week and honestly i am expecting a ding more or less since it is a very reachy school for me....

Hazay: Yes. We need to calm down a bit but man, that's hard. Two days ago, I went to Wharton event. I couldn't ask a question b/c I thought it would sound dumb and affect my candidacy.

Lawgonebusiness: I agree on that they are waiting on giving out acceptances. It's August, but still early in the game, even for ED. Before they give out the thick envelope (not sure true for MBA, but it was when I applied for undergrad :) ), I believe they would think if a person is H/S/W/C worthy.

Next monday is my submission day, and maybe I'm too early in the process, but I can't see how I can improve my CBS app. Maybe and hopefully such epiphany happens during other apps.

I also wonder how much influence GMAT/GPA has. I know essays are the most important ones, but still, looking at those who received invitation, I can't help think that 720 sounds almost minimum.
