...and so I just called CBS and they said "we receive a majority of the applications in the final week before every deadline....certainly not within a week of opening the application submission window".

LOL.

FYI, I submitted mine after the LA event past Monday for Sept ED. Then I received TWO status change e-mail. I thought I was the man, but NO. It was just telling me mine is under review :-D devious indeed.

But still, speculation will only make you crazier. I know we are crazy about CBS enough to 1. apply ED and 2. submit wayyyy before October deadline. I think unless you've finished your interview and your review is in, you shouldn't bet on getting decision before October. In other words, let's tame the craziness with prepping other apps.

And not trying to nag, but if you join CBS thread with one of those "any advice for me?" "what do I do?", please be kind to provide answers for other questions in the future and be a continuing participant. One thing that bothers me is that people just pop up out of nowhere and "long time lurker, thanx for the info. yeah, I got admitted. Cya in CBS" To me, that's just boasting. Good for you, but honestly, I don't wanna see you even if I get admitted.

In addition, most of J-term applicants are international...
I believe the opposite is true, since international students plan to stick around here to get a job to pay off massive b-school debts! September entry makes more sense. Of course, CBS has to confirm as the incoming class profile doesn't break it down: https://www4.gsb.columbia.edu/null?&excl ... _id=731889

Chostein -- Right I agree. "Ziad" pops up out of nowhere. Gloats, and provides inaccurate information.

w103 -- you are correct.

The 3 clusters for J-term is more than 200 students, 40 is less than 20%. You may not believe me, but as I mentioned, the numbers are not scientifically driven, but we all know that the later you apply the less likely it is that you'll get in, so if the majority of applicants apply in the last week then the vast majority of applicants (who according to you apply at the end) will be rejected, and the bulk of the class would not be determined until days before the start day. If the majority of students apply first week of October, add to that 8-12 weeks, you'll be end of November - December, now that makes no sense! You don't seem to understand how CBS's system works, and you are treating the deadline similar to that at MIT or Harvard. CBS receives the majority of the applications in the beginning of the period, although it is a very long period and the deadline is in October. The bulk of the applicants are accepted earlier!

The problem on blogs is that people start believing that the majority of applicants/ accepted students post, and start counting every post on every website, but the reality is that the majority do not post.

Regards, and no need for the hostility, we are students, not worriers

Will it always be a phone-call followed by an email - incase of an admit?
Is this the same for Rejects (after i/v) - Please clarify

I agree with you chostein. Everyone seems jittery this morning. Too much coffee? Try Hoegaarden instead.

I haven't slept for 24 hours b/c of bed bugs exterminating. As you know, you gotta clean/dry all your clothes.

I'm 90% sure I got the bug from Wharton event but unfortunately Kellogg is holding their event in same location (No offense Bain. I love ya. But I love your sister a bit more, Bain Capital :P ) So lotta conflict in my mind. Oaktree was the best.

Back to admission-

One thing good about CBS ED was that other than essays, I'm prepped. When I look at other schools' apps, it's just copy-and-paste usually. Yes. I think ED feels like structural anti-procrastinator. I'm sleepy so I don't feel that crazy about my status at this point :P

@ziz:

You are simply wrong, and let me explain why:

1) CBS says you are wrong when I just called them.
2) YES! The vast majority of applicants at the end will be rejected...thats the point of a rolling decision. Its a 15% admit rate as is, and if you apply near the end its probably closer to 5%. So That makes total sense.
3) On J-term applications they move faster. They aim to have a decision (interview conducted, etc.) within 8 weeks. So first few weeks in December the class will be composed...with a late January start date. Days before? Thats like 6 weeks before....
4) Actually I do understand how the CBS system works. I have met personally with an ex-CBS admissions officer who I know from undergrad....I would say she knows a little more than you do.
5) Correct -- a lot of applicants are accepted earlier...but to say 90% of applications come in in May??? And 98% of applications are already in? Thats so beyond in accurate that its comical. Try like 25% are in at this point....
6) Right, the majority dont post....but don't you find it funny that last years facebook group for J-term had 175 people....right now the one you are in has TWO PEOPLE. Thats because your numbers are so so so off.

7) The hostility is because you are posting things on here that you have no idea about. Are in accurate. Make zero sense. Are irresponsible to post.

Anyone else have any thoughts? Agree/disagree with me?

I just got an interview invite! I'm applying for ED, submitted my app and went under review on 7/26.

I sympathize with others on the obsession/frustration of waiting - hope it'll all be worth it in the end...

gkumar is right, guys.

Yes. It's not nice to post inaccurate information, but I think we are smart enough to discern that for ourselves and whether to accept or not.

I wouldn't really care even if ziad's comment was on Sept ED because 1. there is nothing I can do at this point, 2. unless it is for me and only for me, it doesn't matter, 3. I'm starting my apps for other schools so what can be the curveball??

Yes. I share the anxiety. My Gmail is open 24/7, and even though I submitted past Monday, when I saw "blocked" # on my cell, I was like, "yeah. CBS loves me :-D " except that it was the exterminator.

Let's calm down. Heck I'd like some of that jolt. I wanna sleep but nowhere to sleep.

They are definitely moving faster on the ED front. The ED applicants who applied early are totally stuck!!!

I just blame my situation on you :!:

If you hadnt create that topic yelling " Submitted " ... I wouldnt be in that situation :-D

I would have taken more time to submit. But it gave me time to finish the other apps, so thank you
